Congratulations again on your first world series, yada yada...Now back to the hot stove. Looks like Wells want out. What's your opinion, sf?

Oh Wells. Two issues at hand with this demand: the guy was a good signing this year, so replacing his innings at the price they paid might not be that easy (with bonuses I am guessing he cleared over 5 or 6 mill, but I'd have to check). On the other hand, it's not like I have any emotional attachment to the guy, in any way.

So, the front office will have some work to do if they can't get decent value back; on the other hand maybe this opens up a spot for a youngster that Francona otherwise wouldn't have used, such is his aversion to young talent. But first Wells actually has to be dealt.

Wells made about $9M this past season. He hit all his bonuses. I don't know how they'd trade him to SD with the possibility he could make another $9M next season as well. Maybe LA would be a possibility... In either case I can't imagine them getting someone in return who would be as valuable to the Red Sox as Wells was last season. I'll be sad to see fatass go.
