We don't like losing streaks. And we hate the sleepy-eyed lefty curveballers who make their living setting down our beloved Bosox. So tonight, this second night of Pesach, we turn to Matt Clement and our jury-rigged outfield to reverse this atrocious one game losing skein and (for once, please) make Ted Lilly look like the guy with the nearly 5.00 career ERA that he is. After missing last night's boomtastic debacle for a well-prepared short rib, we're gratefully heading back to the couch to listen to the Remdawg, to watch our lads make the move to 7-2. Consider this your thread for all things Sox/Jays.

You forgot to mention the chance to catch the rare shot of Kelly down the third base line.

Papi. Seems like he's hitting lefties well this year, no?
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:25 PM
Well, that was good swing from Manny. Laser beam. Right to Glaus, unfortunately.
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:27 PM
c'mon guys, I'm stuck working on a computer without Flash that can't even run GameCast -- give me a little color commentary here. I'm dyin'.
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:34 PM
Clement looks shitty. Tied up 1-1 on a double by Gregg Zaun after a single by Hinske.
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:34 PM
Sox went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first and Clement gave it back in 4 pitches. Nicely done.
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:35 PM
Ugh, another rocket. Clement doesn't look shitty. He looks really shitty.
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:36 PM
After the effort by Wells and the way Clement looks tonight, I wonder if Theo is IMing the Rocket already...
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:38 PM
Clement puzzles me. He's one of these guys with electric stuff who just can't seem to put it all together.
Posted by: NickYF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:38 PM
ugh. i should've known when I asked for color commentary on the game that the color would turn out to be shit brown.
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:38 PM
ditto for Cash, after the Wang and Chacon performances.
Posted by: NickYF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:39 PM
Good play by Lowell and Tek - quick grounder to Lowell, who caught Zaun breaking off third. Big first out. Men on 1/2, 1 down.
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:40 PM
Another hit. 2-1 Jays. Clement is awful tonight.
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:40 PM
Bases loaded. Seems like a fine time to go cook dinner. Which, ironically, happens to be meatballs. Back in a bit.
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:44 PM
Oy. Grand Slam for Wells. 6-1 Jays.
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:46 PM
I've watched CLement for a few years. You need him to sharp in the first half of the season, cause he usually gets strictly mediocore by the second half.
Posted by: walein | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:48 PM
Vernon Wells, we kiss you!!! BoSox lead in the standings slipping away, and fast.....
Posted by: YF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:48 PM
I think Theo just canceled whatever nice dining arraingement he had for himself and Matthew after the game.
Posted by: walein | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:49 PM
the clamminess of Sox fans is astounding. Where are they now?
Posted by: NickYF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:50 PM
And a Wily Mo K.
Posted by: YF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:54 PM
Dude, I had to put my kid to bed and now I am cooking dinner. Cut me some slack!!
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:54 PM
No dinner for you. Suffer!
Posted by: NickYF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:54 PM
well, coming back from 5 runs down this early in the game certainly isn't out of the question, assuming we don't fall too much further into a hole.
But I'm just being quiet because I can't even watch the game on GameCast; without any info, I'm hardpressed to add much.
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:55 PM
I think Clement might be the second coming of Derek Lowe, without the postseason stones.
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:57 PM
does that mean we're gonna be stuck with years of Sports Guy columns about the Matt Clement Face? Because I don't think I need that.
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 07:59 PM
Ah, the ebb and flow, the ups and downs, the peaks and valleys of a 162 game season.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:01 PM
Gonzalez with the leadoff single after Clement sets them down 1-2-3. Chip away, boys.
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:02 PM
i can only surmise that things most not be going terribly for the Sox since all the YFs seem to be off being clammy or something.
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:02 PM
Look, 3 Yanks fans to 2 of us Sox fans. And I thought you guys didn't really concern yourselves with our team...
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:02 PM
I never said that SF.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:05 PM
SF, that's weak. When did any of these three Yanks fans claim otherwise?
Posted by: NickYF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:05 PM
DP! The night gets better!
Posted by: YF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:07 PM
SF is probably thinking of John.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:07 PM
You didn't. But I can't help needling John, even when he's not around.
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:07 PM
"chipping away" would entail NOT hitting into double plays with two guys on and none out, with Papi and Manny coming up...
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:08 PM
Oh. So sad. Mr. Clutch takes one looking down 5 with a man on third. Guess he's waiting until the 9th inning.
Posted by: YF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:10 PM
maybe he figures that's the way to win the AL MVP, YF.
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:11 PM
Nice catch Mohr
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:13 PM
Or he got a hit in the first inning to drive in a run, and he's not inhuman.
YF with the uninformed cheap shot!
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:13 PM
Nothing like the pitcher who can settle down nicely after putting his team in a 6-1 ditch.
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:15 PM
And look at that. Another Sox game thread obliterates a Yankees game thread. This is getting to be a pattern, guys and gals, even if it did take a couple of YFs tonight.
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:17 PM
Those were three day games against KC. I, for one, had to work.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:20 PM
That's no excuse!
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:21 PM
2 on, no outs.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:22 PM
Ok, second straight inning with the first two guys on base. We're DUE.
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:22 PM
stuckworking, are you relying on what's being said here to follow the game?
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:23 PM
Blech, ankle high cutter called a strike. Come on, Blue!
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:23 PM
Let's see if Lilly can handle Mohr and Pena.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:24 PM
I can follow the scoreboard on espn.com -- so i've got some idea. Not exactly real time, however.
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:25 PM
on the black.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:25 PM
Boy, the Red Sox are in one of those insanely frustrating to watch "getting guys on base but can't do shit" modes.
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:26 PM
Stuck, at MLB.com for 15 bucks you can listen to home and away radio broadcasts for the whole season for all the teams.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:27 PM
10 bucks a big hook coming to whiffy mo...
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:28 PM
Pathetic. Even I knew it. Another waste.
Posted by: SF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:28 PM
thank for the suggestion, whatever. Usually I've got better access than I do today -- I'm just not using my usual computer.
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:30 PM
Tavarez coming in. This should be interesting.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:38 PM
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:39 PM
that's weird. typepad ate my post.
all i said was: gulp. (with reference to Tavarez)
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:40 PM
it acted out the sound
Posted by: NickYF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:41 PM
7-1! hoot.
Posted by: YF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:44 PM
that's some smart blogging software you got here, then.
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:44 PM
nogthing but the best at yfsf, sw.
Posted by: YF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:47 PM
stuck, Tavarez jams the Jay's hitter and gets an inning ending DP to get out of bases-loaded jam.
Bottom of 5th. 7-1 Jays.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:49 PM
I have a feeling that Julian's tenure with the Sox is going to be the stuff of legends. I'm pretty sure it's going to be a car accident-type of legend.
Posted by: NickYF | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:51 PM
nice. almost makes sense for ME to say, "7-1! hoot."
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:51 PM
Quiet crowd at Fenway, waiting for something to happen.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:51 PM
Sox down in order. On to the 6th.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:52 PM
It's not often I sit at the computer and try to describe some of the game so a Red Sox fan who's stuckworking can have an idea of whats going on.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:57 PM
believe me, it's appreciated, whatever. Although you can't be too upset to be the bearer of bad news.
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:59 PM
Back to back doubles for the Jays. 8-1. Wells flys out.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 08:59 PM
I guess your right about that, stuck.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:00 PM
Glaus lines out. 2 down.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:01 PM
Overbay grounds out to Youk with the pitcher covering. Bottom of 6th coming up.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:03 PM
Ortiz, Manny, and Tek due up.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:04 PM
Ortiz fouls out.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:06 PM
guess everyone else lost interest, huh?
Can't imagine Sox'll end the game with one run.
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:06 PM
Manny K's. Timlin up in the pen.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:07 PM
Lilly's looking tough.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:08 PM
hmm. well, it's certainly *possible* for the Sox to end the game with one run.
i still say it's unlikely, though. maybe another Lowell HR?
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:09 PM
They're probably infatuated with my play by play. Heh heh. Tek grounds out. Top of the 7th coming up.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:09 PM
Hard to hold the Sox down, especially at Fenway. 3 more innings to do some damage, stuck. Timlin in game.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:11 PM
timlin here. and some garbage time for foulke, maybe?
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:13 PM
it's sweet of you to cheer me up like that, whatever. really.
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:13 PM
bloop single
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:14 PM
Double play. Youk looking good at first.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:15 PM
No big deal, stuck.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:15 PM
say stuck, are you of the female persuasion?
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:16 PM
groundout to Gonzo, bottom of 7th on tap.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:17 PM
"persuasion"? That's an interesting theory of gender identity you've got there.
Anyway, no, I'm not. But I guess you're welcome to try to persuade me otherwise.
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:19 PM
huh?
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:20 PM
that "sweet" remark made me wonder.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:21 PM
just a joke. nevermind.
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:21 PM
Another Lilly K. 10 in the game. Wily Mo up.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:22 PM
i take it my faux-prediction of a Lowell HR has not come to pass.
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:22 PM
Blue Jay throwing error. Wily on 1st.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:23 PM
Not yet.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:24 PM
ground out. top of the eighth coming.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:25 PM
well, with that, i think i'm going to retire from the blog for the evening, whatever. While the Sox can come back and the big boys will get another shot, I think I'm better served trying to finish my work and get out of here. thanks for the play-by-play, though. i do appreciate it.
Posted by: stuck working | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:27 PM
flyout to Wily Mo.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:27 PM
Glad to help you out a bit, stuck. Sorry I couldn't have described an amazing comeback for you . Take it easy.
Posted by: whatever | Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 09:30 PM
