Mr. Clutch: waiting for the ninth again!
Posted by: YF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:24 PM
vicodin doing the trick yet, YF?
Posted by: NickYF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:25 PM
YF: ruining his credibility with every post.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:27 PM
Funny how Moyer started throwing SLOWER and got out of that jam.
Posted by: whatever | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:28 PM
Ortiz is clearly overpaid. (PS: it's Tylenol w/ codeine, and it's wearing the bleep off rapidly).
Posted by: YF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:28 PM
Not before your last two posts it hasn't worn off.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:29 PM
No jinx, I hope, but Curt looks really good so far.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:31 PM
I don't have the game - how does Schilling look?
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:32 PM
Carl Everett sighting. Hide your dinosaurs.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:32 PM
Its OK, he won't see them anyway.
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:33 PM
Schilling is looking WAY too sharp for my liking.
Posted by: whatever | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:33 PM
Really, really good.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:33 PM
mattymatty, he's a bit chubby and pasty.
Posted by: NicKYF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:34 PM
nice...
So, has there been a bigger free agent bust than Adrian Beltre? He was terrible last year and he's hitting .139 this year. Ugh.
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:34 PM
Beltre's value in my fantasy auction draft plummeted from last year to this year. He went for $35 last year, and I got him for $1 this year. He's clearly not playing up to my price tag.
Posted by: NickYF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:36 PM
"Ortiz is clearly overpaid."
This coming from a guy who's team is paying Mussina, Pavano and Wright $34.6 mil.
You should probably shouldn't take any more medecine- you're obviously not thinking clearly.
Posted by: Mayday Malone | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:36 PM
apparently, YF's codeine induced jokes are not well-received by the New Englanders.
Posted by: NickYF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:37 PM
I got them. Don't generalize!
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:38 PM
I think YF was joking, Mayday.
Nick - Sexson isn't doing much better. You don't have him too I hope.
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:38 PM
The jig is up: YF IS JOE SHEEHAN!!
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:38 PM
Wily Mo is very large.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:39 PM
What are the chances of Moyer throwing even one strike to Wily Mo all night? I'd put the over/under at about 20%.
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:40 PM
no, I don't, but my team sucks anyway right now. Crawford has stolen 1 base, my pitching staff is in shambles, I'm losing years to the stress.
Posted by: NickYF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:41 PM
Wily Mo hit the ball very high. Unfotunately also very short. 2 down.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:42 PM
I don't play fantasy for the same reason I don't smoke: I'd probably like it too much, and its probably not that good for me.
Also, it would cause me to root against the Red Sox at some point, and I won't have that. Whats your policy on drafting Red Sox players, Nick? Are you opposed to it?
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:44 PM
Oops! "Bathroom Break" Gonzalez got a hit.
(Come on, everybody! Play along!)
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:46 PM
Moyer just got totally hosed by the home plate ump on a clear strike.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:48 PM
I thrown allegiance out the door. So, I've had plenty of Sox on my fantasy teams in years past. Oddly, none this year. I think it's because I had Foulke last year.
Posted by: NickYF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:49 PM
Moyer flirtin' with disaster.
Posted by: whatever | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:50 PM
Come on, Loretta. Bases plugged. Though the inning should be over.
Youk really knows the plate. I can't believe it's taken him this long to get a full time job.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:50 PM
Darn. Still, lots of pitches and lots of baserunners, and it's really early. Bodes well.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:52 PM
SF,
I'm glad you mentioned Moyer getting squeezed. Coming from a NY fan would sound a little, uh, biased.
Posted by: whatever | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:53 PM
Damn. Meat of the order coming up next inning...
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:53 PM
Love that improved infield D.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:57 PM
Schilling has thrown 37 pitches through 3 innings. Pretty economical. Just for comparison, Moyer has thrown 51 through 2.
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:00 PM
Thought Moyer had Papi looking on that third pitch.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:01 PM
Who else has been trying ESPN's Gamecast beta? It's really, really slick. I have it going while watching the game live, and I have to say I am impressed.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:03 PM
Manny looks off. Maybe it's the steroids.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:03 PM
Manny hasn't looked too good this year. He seems pretty far off. He's swinging and missing a lot.
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:05 PM
Manny started last year worse than this year.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:06 PM
Way to go, Curt! Let's get him some runs, guys.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:12 PM
I don't like this slow start stuff. Its becoming a habit...
8 pitch inning for Schill. High quality stuff.
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:12 PM
I am not sure I like ESPN's gamecast. I find the MLB interface a little easier for getting a quick sense of the game. Also, there seems to be more information readily available.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:13 PM
I never use ESPN anymore. MLB is, IMHO, far superior.
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:15 PM
Rally, baby!
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:15 PM
Is YF passed out in a codeine-induced puddle?
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:15 PM
Hmm. Should Moyer load them up?
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:16 PM
Rally!! Come on WILY MO!
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:16 PM
With Wily Mo? Aren't the odds in Moyer's favor?
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:16 PM
TAKE. PLEASE.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:19 PM
The Black Hole comes through!
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:20 PM
Alright, Bathroom Break! Sox finally break through!
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:20 PM
...and WHY did Alex Cora pinch hit for him last night, again?
Posted by: stuck working | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:21 PM
By the way, the "Black Hole" nickname was meant in purely astronomical terms.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:21 PM
GGOW.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:22 PM
Say it with me now...
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUK!!
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:22 PM
Minor squander there. Still, a lead.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:27 PM
We're leaving guys on base at a pretty high rate... Don't like to blow so many good scoring ops... Did anyone see if Gonzalez was really out at home? Was it even close?
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:29 PM
The Sox are going to regret not cashing in the cheap runs, like the Mariners just did.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:35 PM
Beltre has poor career stats against Schilling.
Posted by: | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:35 PM
Johjima is great fun to watch.
Posted by: | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:37 PM
What an amazing at bat by Johjima. No wonder so many pundits picked him as ROY.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:39 PM
Morneau had a really good AB there.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:42 PM
Sorry.. wrong thread.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:43 PM
Sheesh, Manny... Does anybody K twice against Moyer since like 1963?
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:43 PM
Manny is really, really struggling. I can't remember this many bad at-bats. And he stunk last year, too. But this seems a tad more futile to me.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:44 PM
The bottom 4 of the lineup has 5 hits, the top 5 has one. Not expected.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:45 PM
Weird night... Hopefully we can put a few more on the board. I don't really feel secure with only a one run lead.
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:46 PM

Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:47 PM
SF - This may sound like mumbo jumbo, but it seems like Ortiz and Ramirez feed off each other. I need to look it up and see if there really is a correlation.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:49 PM
8 men LOB in 5 innings, most of them in scoring position it seems. This is the type of game many teams lose, when they don't put guys across the plate.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:49 PM
How does that explain Ortiz' hot start, AG?
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:49 PM
SF - Small sample set? I was more speaking across a season. Anyway, like I said, I need to investigate stats to back this up; I may be full of it. It's more of a reaction based on watching a lot of games, with what may be false memories.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:52 PM
Nickel and dime shit here. Maybe the Sox should emulate.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:54 PM
Come on Curt, one more. Well done so far.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 08:58 PM
WHIFF!!! Great job by Schilling, King two guys in a row with a man at third.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:00 PM
If the M's are going to have a chance in the West, they have to nickle and dime. Meanwhile, Javy Lopez looks overmatched.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:01 PM
It's Jose Lopez, not Javy.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:02 PM
i smell a big inning coming up for us.
Posted by: stuck working | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:03 PM
Sorry. Good catch SF. And Jose was outmatched.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:04 PM
...after the obligatory Pena K.
Posted by: stuck working | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:05 PM
I know the bottom of the lineup is doing well tonight, but I can't help but look forward to the day that Crisp and Nixon are back as regulars. The depth is so important.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:13 PM
Moyer is over 100 pitches. Amazing how durable that guy is.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:14 PM
Second k for ARod
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:17 PM
Second k for ARod
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:17 PM
Double post. oops.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:18 PM
Jeez, take a friggin' pitch, Lowell.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:29 PM
I think Curt is back. For real.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:37 PM
think he'll pitch a complete game, SF?
Posted by: stuck working | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:40 PM
104 pitches for Curt. Meh. Bring in Papelbon.
Posted by: airk | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:40 PM
Stuck- Schilling's next start is against Tampa. Why not?
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:43 PM
I think it's JP time.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:47 PM
Wouldn't this be some seriously painful poetic justice?
Posted by: mattymatty | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:49 PM
Ichiro whiffs! One to go.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:52 PM
Just BLEW that one by him.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:53 PM
Scary, wall-banger. Nice play by Manny to keep it to a single.
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:53 PM
DONE! Another save for Papelbon, and another win for Schilling.
"Beckett and Schilling and..."
Posted by: SF | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:55 PM
game set match!
Posted by: airk | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 09:55 PM
.700 record, baby.
Posted by: Hudson | Friday, April 14, 2006 at 11:12 PM
Just got back from Mexico - what'd I miss? Nice to see a W today, regardless.
Coco and Papi locked up, Coco and Trotter down, JP still rocking it, .700 record, found the real Schill, Beckett yelling at people, Riske on the "DL" . . .
Wow, you guys have been busy this week.
