I'm jealous. Great photos and description, SF. Welcome back.

Awesome, SF.

I was in Venezia for the 2000 European Cup finals, and when Italy lost to these same Les Bleus that town shut down completely.

Biggest sporting event in the world, and you were in the country of the side that won. I am green with envy, SF. Great pix, by the way.

Forza Azzurri!

Forza SF. The best thing on the match I've seen anywhere, and great pix to go with it. Bravo!

Amazing.

But...

How could you not talk about the food man, I mean, THE FOOD MAN?!?!?!?!?!?!

The food was great - fresh seafood (I mean freshlike 2 hours fresh), in Polignano, and the typical fresh veggies and cured meats in Milan. It was beyond great. But not as far beyond great as the experience of watching the Cup Final.

Wow... It really puts into perspective how important soccer really is to the rest of the world. There is a small minority of cities and teams in the US in any sport that have this kind of devotion, and it's nice to be part of it, to be able to identify with them, but the infrequency and intensity of the World Cup is impossible to beat. I was lucky enough to be in Germany to see a couple matches a few weeks ago, and it's an incredible experience. Early-round wins against inferior clubs are cause for celebrations that rival the Sox' World Series win. And that's with smaller groups of people; it must have been amazing to be there surrounded by happy Italians (although I was rooting for Les Bleus). Great pictures, SF!
