The Yankees won the game suspended in the top of the 8th on June 28th, final score 8-7. For the regular game, Andy Pettitte is on the mound for New York as Jeremy Guthrie gets the start for the Orioles. Pettitte and Guthrie faced each other on June 26th, each allowing two runs; Guthrie recorded the victory over the Yankees when Scott Proctor walked consecutive batters to end the game. Here's hoping for a more impressive finish than that. Comment away..

Yanks waste an opportunity in the top of the 1st as Matsui grounds out with men on 1st and 3rd.

Man, the Yankee fans have really gone underground, eh?..
Posted by: yankeemonkey | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 08:32 PM
first pitch, no less. i tuned in in time to hear there were runners on 1st and 3rd, then was immediately cut back down with that hasty groundout.

The more Kay babbles about the great offense and the Yankee resurgence, blah blah blah, the more worried I get about this game...

you should hear these O's announcers on XM... yikes. they're talking about how guthrie eats a hamburger before every start as a sort-of-superstition, then carry it over to "trying to make a hamburger out of melky here" and the pun-tastic "and here's the cheese!"
aaaaand he triples in AP. 1-0 NYY.

sorry, that was me above.

Melky "Babe Ruth" Cabrera, the one-man wrecking crew, delivers an RBI triple to score Phillips. NYY up 1-0. Seems like Patterson should've had it, though.
Damon gets absolutely robbed by Tejada to end the inning.

pettitte struggling with 2 outs again. seems like he did this last time too.
Posted by: nyara | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 08:47 PM
O's making some noise with 2 outs in the 2nd.
Posted by: yankeemonkey | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 08:48 PM
tough out, could have been a disaster. youkilis goes deep, puts the sox up 3-1.
Posted by: nyara | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 08:54 PM
Gyah.
Posted by: yankeemonkey | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 08:58 PM
Arod, please just get it over with....It's getting somewhat tiresome.
Posted by: yankeemonkey | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 08:59 PM
that's it, work those counts. i think the key today is getting to the bullpen early, with guthrie on the roll he's on.
aaaand abreu grounds out on the 2nd pitch.
Posted by: nyara | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 08:59 PM
ugh. pettitte not looking sharp today. big K against tejada though.
Posted by: nyara | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 09:10 PM
eff. 3-1 O's. pettitte looks like sh*t.
Posted by: nyara | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 09:16 PM
i guess i should say "sounds" instead of "looks", since i've got no visual, only radio and interweb.
Posted by: nyara | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 09:17 PM
yankees hitting with men on has been abysmal lately.
2nd and 3rd, one out, and nothing happens. again.
Posted by: nyara | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 09:44 PM
i need to stop with the negative posts. a couple of runs here might do the trick.
Posted by: nyara | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 09:54 PM
1st and 2nd, no out... let's see what happens:
Posted by: nyara | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 10:00 PM
posada Ks on 3 pitches. one out.
Posted by: nyara | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 10:00 PM
cano knocks in arod with a single to right. 3-2 O's.
Posted by: nyara | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 10:01 PM
phillips with the GIDP.
got one, but this is pretty lame. guthrie past 100 pitches, so maybe we can do some damage against the 'pen.
Posted by: nyara | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 10:05 PM
Bah, got home just to see the Yanks down 4-2. Bah, let's go Yanks!
Posted by: Lar | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 10:57 PM
The HR by Millar was not clutch for the Yanks. 3-2 and this could've been a lucky hit away. Grr.
Posted by: Lar | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 10:57 PM
Well, those were two quick outs sandwiching a single. Melky looked like he was aiming for the fence.. which might or might not be the right thing to do.
Posted by: Lar | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 10:59 PM
Need to at least keep the inning alive..
Posted by: Lar | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 10:59 PM
Well, and that was quick. Take that, momentum!
Posted by: Lar | Friday, July 27, 2007 at 11:02 PM
I basically blame the Royals for this, insisting on a night game on getaway day. We looked flatter than Claire Danes' out there tonight.

The Yankees' magic number is 68.
The Sox's magic number is 52.
With 59 games to play, I like them numbers. But anything can happen, especially since the two teams have six games left to play against each other (two three-game series, in late August and mid September).
