Pete Abraham writes in the Journal News that Joe Girardi thinks his interviews yesterday with the Yankee brass went well. One thing's for sure after hearing Hank Steinbrenner: whomever the Yankees settle on for the next skipper, Hank will be sure that he's a smart guy.
.. "We're not stupid," Hank Steinbrenner said.
.. "He (Girardi) appears to be very smart," Hank Steinbrenner said. "That's his reputation - smart, tough when he has to be. And he can be easy when he has to be. He has baseball smarts, his handling of pitching, the fact that he's been a catcher and a smart catcher."
.. Bobby Valentine is not being considered as manager. "He's certainly a smart guy, but probably not," Hank Steinbrenner said.
