Thank you kindly.

Seriously, what's next? The Paul O'Neill coming out of retirement announcement?

Best, off season, ever.

Sorry, this is silly.

In other news, Schilling runs his own video game company and is serving as judge in an "American Idol meets Venture Capital" contest with internet commerce celebrities.

wow, Pete thinks it's silly. Whodathunk it.

The I.R.S. wants Jeter's intangibles.

The I.R.S. wants Jeter's intangibles.

ha. Maybe finally we'll all find out exactly what they are!

Pete, this is a website about two baseball teams, if a star of one of those teams is involved in potential criminal activity, that's news, that's worthy of discussion, ESPECIALLY in the off season.

What team do you root for again? It's so damn hard to tell.

Oops.. forgot to turn the silly thing on. Added the silly URL to the silly post.

Seriously, who's Pete?

And "criminal" activity? I think that shows just how silly this report is and the reaction from some folks. If anything they'll make him report additional income and he'll pay a fine. The speculation begins on the:

"Lawyers for Jeter and the state may still yet settle the case, before the superstar is forced to sit face-to-face with tax officials."

Note the MAY?

Really, I don't see the news here.

Carry on.

Thanks for your permission.

Who said my time is valuable? I certainly wouldn't be bullshitting about baseball if it was.

In other news, Google thinks Schilling is a good evaluator of entrepreneurial internet talent.

UH OH, Barry Bonds was just indicted for perjury and obstruction!

Now THAT's news! Perfect timing Atheose too.

I guess he won't be hitting behind A-Rod this year?

Here's Selig today:

"We started at $1.2 billion, and I can remember waking up in '93 and '94 and '95 and thinking how are we ever going to get to $2 billion? So here we are at $6 billion, 75 million. And if we just keep doing our work, stay out of controversies, keep the focus on the field, we'll get to numbers someday that will be stunning. And these are stunning."

Now that's funny. Anyone think the Mitchell Report is going to delve into what Selig knew? Or the Owners?

By the way - $6B - that mean every team is making $200 million/year? Or what's the guaranteed distribution based on national broadcast rights and internet?

The story is this: Jeter makes tens of millions of dollars per year through salary and endorsements. To protect some of that money, quite some time ago declared Florida, which has no state income tax, his state of residence. New York State says, "wait a second, you derive a great deal of fortune from your business dealings in this state, and you should pony up." His reputation probably won't take much of a hit. However, many people would say to rich superstars in circumstances such as Jeter's that if NY is to be your playground, you should pay your fair share to the common coffer.

Oh noes! Derek Jeter is a slimy, no-morals, classless CRIMINAL! Along with baseball, his name will always be remembered for...trying to...save millions of dollars by living in Florida.

Heck, I live in Boston, but my car and insurance is registered in New York so I don't have to pay through the nose. That extra $3000 to me is pretty equivalent to what those extra millions are to Jeter.

But honestly, no one figured this out before? Jeter's contract with a New York-based business is completely untouched by New York State? Doubt it. I wonder if Pettitte or Clemens officially changed their residencies to play for the Yankees this year.

> Oh noes! Derek Jeter is a slimy, no-morals, classless CRIMINAL!

Funny. But no, that's not my point.

I wonder if all of the red sox pay taxes to mass.
all the indians to ohio...

speaking of indictments. Barry Bonds just got indicted for purjury, place your bets on the levenworth softball team, they are about to get the ultimate ringer!

New skipper Girardi thinks Rivera will stay with Yankees

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3112443

BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic -- Joe Girardi plans to have Mariano Rivera in pinstripes next season.

"We want to sign Mariano," the Yankees' new manager said Thursday. "I already spoke with him on this trip and I think that there is a good chance that he will return to the team."

That's what i like about girardi, he already is doing his scouting of players and getting busy preping for ST and the season. girardi is a breath of fresh air, everyone will see the difference. Joe Girardi will be a great fit for this club and Rivera will back after he finds out there's no other offers out there that will be close to what the Yankees offered.comments anyone?

Do you really think Joe Torre was just sitting around his house, drinking tea and sleeping in during the offseason? Managers and management of teams often will tell you they maybe take a week or two after the end of the season before getting back to work.

"(Jeter) enjoys a reputation for being mature and responsible with his wealth and fame.

Guess that makes Paris Hilton "mature and responsible" now.

Paul- Torre was known to spend a significant part of his off season in Hawaii. For all the things said about Joe Torre over the years being a tireless worker is not one of them. For better or worse. He got the job done very well with the work he did, its just a different approach. This could be what this team needs now.

Heh. Didn't realize that, Sam.
