The Boston Herald today reports that Dustin Pedroia played the final two months of the season and the playoffs with a broken hand.
“Some days I would wake up and it would be hard to grip a bat,” Pedroia said. “I changed my grip a little bit on the bat and went from there. It was just one of those things you know you have to take care of after the season, but you have to play through. ... We just had to find a way to fight through it.”
Rob Bradford, who scores his second big scoop in a week (having been the first to report the Schilling deal would likely get done), also tells us that when the surgeon went to remove the hamate bone, it "crumbled."
For the record, Pedroia put up a .324/.368/.462 line the final two months of the season, and hit big home runs in ALCS Game 7 and World Series Game 1.

Y'know, I remember an incident that had to have happened right about the time Pedroia first hurt his wrist. Peddy dove to his right to try and stab a ball up the middle he dove so hard that rolled over on his wrist and you could see him yell in pain. I remember at the time thinking he'd have to come out of the game. I knew then how tough Pedroia is, he stayed in the game and not only that but he continued to play exceptional defense the rest of the way and I can recall several times that he hurt that wrist trying to make a play, including once during the WS. What a ballplayer, what a gamer.

Man, he is so badass. I just hope it heals properly so it isn't an issue in the future.

Its also possible it happened in the game that Edwin Jackson hit him on the hand... remember most of Red Sox Nation at that moment screamed out "THERE GOES THE SEASON" thank god he wsa back the next day.

how can anybody not like this guy?
i know he's not the first to play through this type of an injury, but he did so and took his game to the next level. in the playoffs and world series. this makes schilling's bloody sock game look like a tea party.
