Apparently the mitchell report is more interesting than A-Rod.

Apparently so, Sam.

Lots of interesting comments in this press conference, take them as you will:

ARod says he wanted to do exclusive negotiations with the yankees all along.
Opting out was a big mistake and had some harsh words for how it was handled. That he was lead to believe that the Yankees didnt want to resign him.
Boras was not involved in any way in his coming back and he worked the deal out himself.

Once again, A-Rod trying to upstage the big news of the day with his own issue. What next, Alex? Announcing something on opening day during the Red Sox ring ceremony?

I'm joking of course. Alex came back because of the money. Period. He knew exactly what Boras was doing, but that's here nor there now.
Oh well, welcome back Mario Gloves!!!

You can think that Brad but its not what A-Rod is saying and there isnt really proof to the contrary. The message of this press conference seems to me like Boras convinced A-Rod to do something he didnt want to do without him actually saying this explicitily.

He also said there were preliminary talks with other teams already occurring when he decided to call Hank. So we can put that one to bed too.

Brad, this definitely eliminates all chatter about Boras manipulating things to get his way here. Moreover, A-Rod upstaging bad news with good is, if anything, an attempt to repair, even a little bit, the reverse stunt that his agent was at least if not much more responsible for pulling during the WS.

A-Rod back, Boras looks stupid, case closed.

"A-Rod back, Boras looks stupid, case closed."

nicely put IH...please allow me to amend your comment to: "A-Rod back, Boras looks stupid, 'brad bitter', case closed."

sorry to pick on you brad, but in this case you represent the sour grapes of some sox fans...you guys won, remember?

maybe "looks stupid" is yankee speak for "gained financially". in that case tom hicks "looks stupid" too. i wonder how much alex was chastising scott as he bought the mansion 5 doors down from him in newport beach california on Nov. 7th (a week after opting out). i can only imagine the stern look of disappointment a-rod must have given scott at the house warming party.

spin it however you like but, scott got paid, alex got paid, and the yankees "are who we thought they were" (sue me).

The structure came out, and I got to say, the Yanks do their homework. I mean, they get paid and if I'm "smart" enough to think of it, they should.

But basically, it's heavily front-loaded to the next few years. Presumably this is because of the luxury tax (and writeoff on the stadium, etc). That's kind of awesome to think about.

It works out for ARod too, obviously, as money now is worth more than money in the future. There's even a "bonus" every year at the beginning of the year. Spending money, I suppose!
