I got the art piece below as a gift from my older brother, who does some cool things with photography. Wallie, or "walein" as he is better known here, lives in San Francisco where he can be found most places with camera in hand. He took the photograph below at a Yanks-A's game in Oakland this past season. Then he did some manipulation of the photo through some software program, and made it look cool. Looking at it now makes me miss baseball even more. He drew this illustration based on a photograph he took at a Yanks-A's game. Then he uttered the word "abracadabra" and color was added to it.
Anyway, anyone want to guess what's happening in the picture? Who's on the mound? Who's at bat, avoiding getting hit by the pitch? Better yet, anyone want to guess which game this is? What was the final score? When did it happen?

Giambi's on deck so that's ARod shying away from the shaver. The shadows are pretty much directly underneath the players which makes it seem that it was probably the only day game (1:05p start) from their series in Oakland; the other two were night games. Also, if I can make them out correctly, it appears that not all of the scores on the board are final, which further makes me think it's an early game, and which means that's likely to be Rich Harden throwing in the top of the second on Sunday April 15th, final A's 5, Yankees 4.

thats gotta be A-Rod at the plate, just kinda looks like him getting out of the way. As for the pitcher thats a bit tougher, either Haren or Blanton would be my guess but it could be Street as well. I think this is the first series in april vs Oakland.
Since it looks like a day game, ill say it was April 14 and Arod is about to go deep off Blanton after being brushed back in the 5th inning.....

well since the game i said was a night game, ill follow AG and say it was the 15th. It must have been Harden then... nice job AG!

AG gets it on the first comment! Jeez, I should have made it more difficult. Perhaps, it would have been better if I didn't mention where Wallie lives, the teams, etc.

and AG pointed out documented evidence of this on our site: Check out the first comment from the gamer thread:

one other thing. That was one of the worst losses of the season when Mo gave up that homer to Scutaro to end it. It was a pretty devastating loss in April.

Here's the comment I made on these two at-bats:
"Arod down swinging at a 96 mph 2-2 fastball from Harden. Now Giambi faces deuces and fouls one off, then retired swinging on the breaking pitch. Two away. Harden's got stuff."
Nick's right, that was a heartbreaker of a game.

heartbreaker?! Hardly!!!!

Indeed, those four Eric Gagne games were a source of great entertainment for me.

Walein had nice seats.

Very nice seats indeed AG. Our other brother gifted them to me as my best man gift for his wedding. The worst part of the day for me was telling my GF, when Mo came in "This is Mariano Rivera, he's a living legend, the best reliever there has ever been, watch how he just takes these guys to pieces." If you remember, Mo got 2 outs pretty easily, and the men getting on base were both down 0-2 (as well as Scutaro was when he finally hit the walk off).
I was stunned and shocked and then a tad bit ornery.
By the way Nick. This is an illustration. I drew it by hand, based on a photo I had taken. The only "computer software" I used was Photoshop in order to add color and tune the hand-drawn stuff.
Jeez!

By the way the title of the illustration is "High and Inside."
Alternative titles:
"Juice on Deck"
"Juuussssst a bit inside"
"Rich Harden has 50 more pitches left for the Season"
"C'mon Ump!"
"Jason Dreams of Beer"

Damn, gerb, I'm impressed - you've got chops!

That's a fine drawing, Walein. I really like it. You captured Giambi's stance in the ODC perfectly. Do you use a Wacom or some similar tablet?

"Jason Dreams of Beer"... damn that's funny.

I am terrible, absolutely awful with a wacom tablet. However, one of my goals for the next year is to become more proficient with it since that's really how I should be working (I'm told all the time). My GF's sister lends me hers from time to time; and usually, about 20 minutes later, I quietly unplug it and throw a towel over my head and scream.
