Michael Kay has reverted to cheering for the opposing team, in his bid to get national attention. He'd fit right in with the morons at ESPN. Please, Yankees, get rid of him. I can understand Sterling, he has a monument in monument park, a perfect timbre for radio, and has been with the Yankees forever. But Michael Kay is an absolute embarrassment to the ballclub. Every single person is in agreement on this.

I actually don't get the Michael Kay hate. I'm not saying he's great, and he is a pretty big goofball (his puns are groaners a lot of the time)...but he's always prepared, into the games, and pretty much just plays straight man to the ex-ballplayers he shares the booth with.

And Kay is already an ESPN employee - he has a drive-time radio show in the greater NY area on 1050. I listen to Mike and the Mad Dog though...

I've taken to listening to Kay's ESPN show on XM as I drive home from work. I actually like it, although he spends too much time talking about a mediocre Mets team. But he comes off as intelligent and knowledgable, even if he does ride the fence most of the time. ...

Sterling might be an institution, but he's a caricature of himself now. The fact that he makes no attempt to make Suzyn a credible part of the broadcast and just comes up with idiotic home run calls (A-Bomb ... the Melk Man ... Giambino. ick. please.

I thought Kay and Sterling were the perfect foils for each other. Their egos balanced out. Now they're both really bad, IMO.
Kay and Sterling seem to delight in misfortune (and Paul nails one example). It gives them something to bitch about. And Sterling did plenty of bitching about pitching to Manny.

On the subject, I gotta say I dig Remy and what's his face. Sure, they're biased. But much less so than many other announcers. As I pointed out to my wife on Wed, you can barely hear the hurt in their voices when something bad happens to their team. Meanwhile, Remy has quite the second career as ad pitchman. Every other commercial on NESN has his smiling mug.

I saw a great movie last night called "Deliverance". An Ivy League educated crossword-puzzle doing egghead wanders into the woods and is greated by a dreadlocked man-child who bends him over a stump and...oh, sorry - that was the Yanks-Sox game I was watching.

Saying Manny owns Moose is like saying water is wet.

People walked Barry Bonds at bizarre times when he was the hottest hitter in baseball. Well Manny is hotter off Mussina than any hitter off any pitcher I can ever remember. Walk him! First base isn't open? Walk him! Less than 2 outs? Walk him!

If you don't want to give the IBB, then just pitch around the outside of the plate, but enough with challenging him with 86 mph fastballs.

David Cone was graet last night and I so appreciate him on YES because he is probably the only commentator other than Kim Jones from time to time who demonstrates that he is not drinking NYY Kool-Aid.

After Mussina answered a question about how/why he got clobbered by Manny yet again by saying "I just didn't know where the ball was going" and arguing that "you can't walk a guy in those situations", Cone politely but directly said that control clearly wasn't the issue because Mussina didn't walk anyone in the game. And that you absoultely can walk someone hitting as well as Manny.

Moose can be effective, but only if he internalizes the immortal words of Dirty Harry: "A man's got to know his limitations"

Oh, and I now like Farnsworth again.

As a girl, I can honestly say Suzyn is an embarrassment to female journalists everywhere. Way too emotional, cries too much- screams too much.

And Manny was reDONKulous last night, holy crap. Love that guy. He needs to cook Ortiz breakfast and get some of that pop back in him.

I agree A YF, I love Remmy and Orsillo. Granted I'm a biased Sox fan, but they're genuinely good announcers that hide their bias very well. They're not very annoying, they call the game well, and they're a pleasure to listen to.

The Diamondbacks have two great announcers too, though I've only heard them a handful of times.

Mussina is garbage. He's done an OKAY job at changing his pitching strategy to make up for his lack of velocity, but he's still too arrogant to consistently keep up the new strategy. Pitching to Manny the 2nd time was arrogant. Throwing Manny the exact same pitch in the exact same spot as the first homerun was arrogant.

I don't see much difference between A-Rod getting hit in the shoulder blade after he hit a bomb the night before and Manny getting buzzed high. In fact, if you watched the post-game you heard Manny himself playing down Farnsworth pitch based on what had been done to A-Rod the previous night.

If you want to get into what is right and wrong, it should be clear to everyone that if you're going to send a message you aim at the mid-section and not above the chest. Neither Aardsma nor Farnsworth complied.

And if you want to nit-pick, you should acknowledge which of these events happened first. In other words, who is it that put their teammates "at risk"?

Here are some stats for everyone: since 2006, against the Yankees (over 33 games) Manny Ramirez has 14 homers and 38 RBI's, batting .478 with an OBP of .602.

If he played for a full season against the Yankees, he would have 69 homers (good for 3rd-most all time) and 187 RBI's (good for 2nd-most all time).

Bill, there's nothing wrong with Ironhorse liking Manny getting thrown at. I love to see ARod get thrown at, and I would love to see Bonds get thrown at. Not that they're all in the same boat, but just in general.

Nothing wrong with that AG. I love Manny too. My only complaint is his statue shots, but nobody's perfect. And if he did it while wearing pinstripes I'd simply laugh.
