Fifteen runs in five games. Three runs per game ain't been purdy, but at least General Joe is supposed to be back on the bench today, kicking ass and taking names. Chien-Ming Wang and James Shields have identical records, ERAs and WHIPs after winning their season debuts. Something's gotta give.

Leaping grab by Pedro for the first out.
Posted by: SF | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 01:56 PM
Sorry, that was meant for elsewhere.
Need to get this comment count up, though.
Posted by: SF | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 01:58 PM
Shields is tough.. but Wang's been matching him.
Still should've scored that inning though, obviously..
Posted by: Lar | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 02:10 PM
ARod doubled. So Matsui and Cano have a chance to drive him in.. ya.. am I the only one here? =)
Posted by: Lar | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 02:15 PM
Thanks, Matsui! 2 run homer in a previously scoreless game = sweet!
Posted by: Lar | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 02:18 PM
Cano singles to keep the inning going..
Posted by: Lar | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 02:21 PM
Really nice 11 pitch at-bat from Cano.
Wang also seems to be pitching excellently.
Let's keep it going, Yanks!
Posted by: AndrewYF | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 02:21 PM
Shields at 67 pitches through 4.
Posted by: Lar | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 02:28 PM
Hinske strikes out looking - Wang at 6 K now.
Posted by: Lar | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 02:30 PM
Aybar breaks up the no hitter on the 1-2 pitch.
Posted by: Lar | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 02:33 PM
That was a bit odd, but basically there was a soft groundball to Cano who tried to turn two but dropped the ball. Aybar somehow went to third on this play.
Then the Rays were aggressive in doing the sac squeeze, but missed the bunt, and Aybar was tagged out. Barlett struck out to end the inning..

Damon singles after Melky K's.
Posted by: Lar | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 02:43 PM
Jeter singles, Damon to second with the middle of the lineup up and 1 out.
Posted by: Lar | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 02:45 PM
Abreu strikes out for the third time. Grumbles. Now here's ARod!
Posted by: Lar | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 02:48 PM
ARod walks, and here's the hot hitting Matsui with the bases loaded.
Posted by: Lar | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 02:51 PM
I didn't notice this, actually, but nice of Joe to ride Matsui to batting 5th. He's been hot lately.
Posted by: Lar | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 02:51 PM
Tacking on a run or two would be crucial. 7 hits, and only 2 runs to show for..
Posted by: Lar | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 02:52 PM
Matsui strikes out to end the inning. RISP..
Though I guess it's better than having no runners on base.. but still..
Posted by: Lar | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 02:53 PM
wang looking solid still, bounces back after giving up a second hit with a nice play in the field.
An insurance run or two would be nice.

cano knocks shields out with lead off double. Always good to get the best (active) pitcher on a team out of the game.
Posted by: sam-yf | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 03:07 PM
What's happening after the Floyd single?
Posted by: walein | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 03:20 PM
1st and third, no outs. Let's go for the DP Wang!
Posted by: walein | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 03:22 PM
Wanger out, Joba in.
Nice start for CMW. Lets shut em down Joba!
Posted by: sam-yf | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 03:25 PM
K's Aybar with three beautiful pitches.
Posted by: sam-yf | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 03:26 PM
Not getting those extra runs in might haunt the Yanks..
Posted by: Lar | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 03:29 PM
Great play by Cano to catch a line drive and double up hinske!
Inning over.
Posted by: sam-yf | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 03:29 PM
Not the conventional DP, but got it. Joba is the definition of "relief ace".
Posted by: Lar | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 03:31 PM
Awesome play by Robbie saves Joba's (and Wang's) bacon.
Posted by: yankeemonkey | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 03:32 PM
Yanks win! The Wang-Joba-Mo combines for a 4 hit shutout.
Posted by: Lar | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 04:03 PM
Great win.
Wang comes in and stop the losing streak.
JobaMo are dominant.
Bats wake up a bit as they bang out 9 hits, more runs will come soon...

Thanks for carrying the thread, Lar. Didn't get to see the game; looks like a dandy. Nice job, Chien-Ming!

Joe G. looks and sounds terrible.
Posted by: yankeemonkey | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 04:29 PM
Feeling for Joe. I just fought the _worst_cold_of_my_life_, getting over it about a week ago. TEH UBER-CRUD. Just awful.. hacking cough, 103 fever early on, but that was just the beginning: that hacking cough lingered for a month. Feck.
On another note, it's hard to believe that two runs were enough.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 04:50 PM
It's great that it is though. Let's hope this will carry on for everybody!
But it's true, we got to score more..
Posted by: Lar | Sunday, April 06, 2008 at 06:05 PM
Wang = ace
6 IP, 6 K, 2 BB
Next up in his "Beat the East's Best Tour"?
Beckett on Friday!
:)

Winning close games is great...although I am looking forward to those 10-15 run blowouts at some point! Joba looks FANTASTIC coming out of the pen, where for the record, he belongs...
