The Sox have been very impressive...no doubt. Although I love playing the Astro's, Padres, etc. I can't wait for next weekend!!!

As always, superb work Paul.

You are a madman. Great stuff.

Great breakdown. I think that, barring some bad luck, the Sox will probably finish in the high-90s in terms of wins. Which should (hopefully) be enough to win the division.

What no mention of Ellsbury's projected 72 steals (which would be a team record)? :)

And nice sleight of hand on Colon and Masterson. The former with a 105 ERA+ and the latter with a 126 ERA+. Who wants to bet JM gets sent down when Colon comes back? :)

great stuff paul. would also have to give a thumbs up to the sox fo. casey has been a solid addition to this team. the coco situation has been handled appropriately (NL showcasing). aardsma has filled a role. the key youths have all gotten call ups (lowrie, carter, moss).

a- you always fail to take into account the "masterson rules" when harping on colon. tito and theo have clearly laid out a path to maximize justins innings limitations. this was the plan all along. it has absolutely nothing to do with buck or dice-k getting hurt. colon gets you the most out of justin. the sooner you get on board with this, the sooner you will understand the genius that is theo and greatness that is bartolo.

I basically ignored steals altogether, partly by accident and partly because Ellsbury's steals have dropped off as his ability to reach base has declined. Reaching base is more important than stealing bases. Can't do the latter without the former.

I have wondered what Ellsbury's slugging percentage would look like if we added in his steals, which effectively turn walks and singles into doubles and doubles into triples. Never gotten up to doing the math though.

"maximize justins innings limitations"

Not true. He's had twice as many mL innings as ML innings. Once they realized he was promotable, they made the decision that all innings are created equal (which I do think is really smart). The real problem with Colon is that he'll keep one of Masterson or Buchholz down. That's a shame in my book and I think most SFs would rather cheer for the kids than the fat poophole. And my point all along was that the Sox are a weaker team with Colon.

"I have wondered what Ellsbury's slugging percentage would look like if we added in his steals, which effectively turn walks and singles into doubles and doubles into triples."

I agree on the necessity of this correction in some form or another. The problem though is a double or a triple often drives in a runner. A steal never does. But I agree. That correction, in some form or another, would make guys like Reyes and Hanley that much more valuable.

Still, 72 steals from Ellsbury would be a team record. I think you of all people, Paul, would be singing that at the halfway point. :)

Not true.

come on now, you know how team rules effecting young pitchers go. make it up as you go along and then tell everyone this was exactly how you drew it up many months prior.
