Barney Greengrass, the venerable Upper West Side fish counter, is running a special today; in honor of its centennial, prices are kicked back to 1908 levels, when a nickel got you a soda and a quarter a bowl of borscht. In those days, the Yanks played at Hilltop Park, pictured above in 1912. Look closely and you can see the prices: .75 cents for the grandstands, .50 for general admission, and a quarter for the bleachers. Don't bet on the Steinbrenners running the same promotion when they move into the new digs in the Bronx.
[Ed Note: The Greengrass event is today, Wednesday.]

PS: On a day like this, with the mercury pushing 100, ain't you glad the three-piece suit and bowler is no longer de riguer for the well-attired fan?
It is a good look, though.

I'm bummed that I completely forgot to pass by Barney Greengrass yesterday, and I was in the area! I'm guessing the lines were huge and the weather was awful, so maybe it was okay that I missed it.
