By the way, I know you miss my play by play, but until proven otherwise, I will not do them because the Yanks keep on losing when I do. Done.
Posted by: Lar | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 01:53 PM
Joba with the early lead, after the Yanks rallying a bit for him against the rookie. Unforunately, he just gave up a run back, and Huff is up, with the O's down by one and men on first and second..
Posted by: Lar | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 01:56 PM
And already at 46 pitches after 2.1 innings..
Posted by: Lar | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 01:56 PM
Huff flies out, but smacked that one.. okay, really, no more play by play from me. Go Yanks!
Posted by: Lar | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 01:57 PM
Joba gets out of the inning, but it's now a 1-run lead, and I just read up that 2 of the 3 runs scored by the Yanks are "unforced" runs or whatever - one on an error, and one on a pass ball. Runs are runs, but they need to "welcome" this rookie to the league more!
Posted by: Lar | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 02:00 PM
Oh please? Otherwise I'll have to find some other way to jinx them. :)
Posted by: rootbeerfloat | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 02:02 PM
Apparently Joba's 1st inning run was unearned...anyone know how that happened? Abreu with a big 2-run bomb (for all my criticism of him, he's hot lately), to put the Yanks up 5-2 followed by an easy 1-2-3 for Joba. I'm in the mood for a "cruise to a win" game...hopefully the Yanks are about to oblige.

Lar, I was at a pub for lunch and caught the early Yankee scoring. A-Rod hit a single with two men on - as Jeter scored A-Rod went to second on the throw home, which Markakis air-mailed, prompting A-Rod to go to third and Abreu to dash home. Bobby made one of the better slides I've seen in a while to get around the catchers tag on the throw-back from Sarfite, the pitcher.
Then A-Rod came home on a passed ball - thus the 2 unearned runs. For what it's worth, the first O's run was also unearned thanks to an error by Cano that allowed Roberts on base - BR then came home on a hit by red-hot Aubrey Huff.
Abreu's 2-run HR last inning just got out (hit the foul pole) and then Giambi hit a nuclear bomb foul ball a good 15 rows into the upper deck and down one of the exit ramps before flying out to the infield.
Joba is pumping strikes and has gotten out of some trouble with strikeouts. Almost all sliders and fastballs today - can't recall seeing a curve or change.

Joba gets through the 5th on 7 pitches. Nice. He needed that given that he is still at 75 for 5. Throwing f-balls and sliders pretty much exclusively.

Newest post first? What the..
Posted by: Lar | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 02:40 PM
Or not. Typepad is acting weirdly lately - it showed the newest posts on top for me for a hit..
Posted by: Lar | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 02:40 PM
Joba finishes the 6th and appears to be done. 1 ER on the day.
Posted by: IronHorse (yf) | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 02:50 PM
If they don't win I'm going to commit hari kari so...
Posted by: krueg | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 02:51 PM
At least fat bobby can hit once in awhile or else he would be totally worthless...
Posted by: krueg | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 02:53 PM
I don't share the Krueg disdain for Bobby though I know many do. He is a manimal at the plate in the second half of the year has a strong and usually accuate arm but yeah, is infuriating against the wall.
Giambi drives in Bobby with a bloop single and then Cano moves Stache to 3rd on a single. Yanks with a 6-2 lead and one out threatening to blow the game open. X-Man then rips a ground rule double - 2nd and 3rd, one out, Yanks up 7-2.

Bases loaded, 7-2 Yanks, 1 out, Melky up.
Posted by: IronHorse (yf) | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 03:05 PM
IH: you are too kind to the guy, he is TERRIBLE in RF. His arm is even wasted because he casually jogs to all the balls that fall around him...
Posted by: krueg | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 03:18 PM
Not Melky - sorry - Molina. And he K's. But Damon draws an RBI walk 8-2 Yanks.
They needed this game before playing 7 games in 11 days against the Angels (and their newfound 1B).

I may simply be overly enamored with his bat Krueg. I love when he comes up this time of year with RISP.
Posted by: IronHorse (yf) | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 03:20 PM
Edwar kicked out of the game for his first pitch, which sailed over Millar's head.
Same crew kicked D. Cabrera out for plunking A-Rod last night late in the game.
I can't imagine either was purposeful and neither was preceded by a warning to either bench. Bizarre. If you told me someone was to get kicked out of a Joba-started game for throwing up and in, Edwar Ramirez would no have been the first pitcher to come to mind.
Posted by: IronHorse (yf) | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 03:22 PM
Gotta love Tapeworm aka Edwar...his arms would break off if he got into a scrum!!!
IH- i hear you, he is pretty solid w/RISP...we'll see. He is a Yankee so I have to root for the guy, just REALLY dislike him on defense.
Posted by: krueg | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 03:31 PM
Nice inning by the kid...3 k's. Way to bounce back from the last outing!
Posted by: krueg | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 03:34 PM
Yeah - some nice signs for the Yanks today (bats warm up and down the line-up, Nady logs his second big hit, good starting and BP pitching). The coming 4-game series will test them.
And Bobby hits another HR. This guy is ridiculous after the ASG.
Posted by: IronHorse (yf) | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 03:38 PM
Fat bobby crushes another one???? he must follow this site and want's to show me up...
Posted by: krueg | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 03:38 PM
Now Alex makes it back to back to right center. KAPOW.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 03:40 PM
ABOMB!
Posted by: krueg | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 03:41 PM
Let's hope this carries over to the coming days. And not the "random blips" offense that we've been getting here and there..
Posted by: Lar | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 03:42 PM
Yanks appear to lead the league in getting toss/suspended without actually hitting people. Hah.
Posted by: Lar | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 03:42 PM
where were all these runs the last three games??? baseball is a crazy game.
Posted by: krueg | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 03:43 PM
Nady getting it going...good.
Posted by: krueg | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 03:47 PM
Now it's 12-2 on the Abomb and the Nady RBI double. Me likey Nady.
Posted by: IronHorse (yf) | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 03:48 PM
Tampa Bay won though, so at best, Yanks will keep pace. Unless Sox loses, which would be great.
Nady with a good day. He's a streaky player, so hopefully he'll dominate for long enough to put us into the playoffs..
Posted by: Lar | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 03:50 PM
Save some for tomorrow, guys!
Posted by: Lar | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 03:59 PM
add edwar to the joba/kyle/latroy club of headhunters. this is starting to get disturbing. i guess it's all fun and games until someone has to be removed from the field on a stretcher.
note to the rest of the league...if you hit well against the yanks, they will be throwing at your head.
Posted by: sf rod | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 04:11 PM
You are a drama queen Rod...
Posted by: krueg | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 04:16 PM
yankees win...sweet, I really didn't want to commit hari kari.
Posted by: krueg | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 04:17 PM
Pudge Rodriguez to the Yanks per EEI and Rosenthal.
So much for the idea of "rebuilding Year".
They're taking his contract.
Posted by: Brad | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 04:35 PM
ESPN reporting that Cash has just acquired I-Rod.
What other Alphabet-Rod are out there?
Posted by: I'm Bill McNeal | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 04:35 PM
for nothing but farnsworth.
his contract is up in november, so they should get a draft pick or two as well.
Posted by: Yankee Fan In Boston | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 04:38 PM
What the hell????
Posted by: krueg | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 04:45 PM
Head case Farnsy goes back to Detroit.
That's a head-scratcher. He's been a big part of that 'pen lately.
Posted by: I'm Bill McNeal | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 04:46 PM
So they replaced Posada with Posada.
Pretty good move at the cost of just Farnsworth.
Posted by: LocklandSF | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 04:46 PM
McAdam reports on EEI that something on the trade front suddenly brewing with Manny. Won't name team.
