So apparently diners at Boston's JER-NE Restaurant Saturday night overheard the following exchange: "But how do you deal with the headache of having him around?" followed by "I just ignore him most of the time and hug him when he gets a hit." It was either Ortiz talking about Manny or A-Rod talking about Lenny Kravitz. Either way, I'd love to have been a fly on the wall for that dinner-table conversation. It brings to mind three questions:
- Any of our Bostonites know this place (and what kind of a name is that for a restaurant anyway)?
- Even though none of us is naive enogh to think players on rival teams hate each other, isn't Munson/Fisk, Varitek/A-Rod, and Joba/Youkilis much more pleasing to the rivalry-hardened fan than A-Rod, Ortiz, and Manny in a lovefest?
- When you hear A-Rod is having dinner with someone named Yonder, do you think "future baseball star" or "exotic dancer"?

It's at the Ritz, IH.

Yonder is a beast. Had a chance to watch him during the CWS. He has a limitless ceiling.
IH, I am having my birthday party at the Howard Johnson's on Route 3 this Saturday. Feel free to drop by and eavesdrop on what I have to say about my teammates, I mean co-mods.

Ah, the route 3 HoJos. I've enjoyed many a raucous evening at that locale. Word has it that the Brat Pack used to live it up there. I think Sinatra is rumored to have urinated in the potted plant at the entrance.
Thanks for the Yonder info. I await John Sterling's inevitable "What trajectory does ball from Yonder's bat doth take?"

John, have a plate of fried clam strips for me. HoJos are all closed in the Midwest.
