Debbie Downer's Post-Series Analysis

It's hard to complain about this past weekend if you're a Yanks fan. The Yanks picked up three games on the Wild Card leading Sox. That's never a bad thing. Still, I'm not overly excited about the Bombers sweeping an Oakland A's team that featured a line-up with Carlos Gonzales as the clean-up hitter. The pitching did its job, but you get the sense that Kei Igawa would have had a decent shot against these guys. He does do well against minor league line-ups after all. Meanwhile the offense stayed quiet as it has done much of the year. This will happen when you have Molina, Gardner and Melky in your line-up every day. When the big guys aren't producing, there's not many people who can pick them up. Note to Cashman: Getting a corner outfield bat is more of a priority than adding a good lefty reliever. Gardner is not cutting it.

Now the Yanks face some real competition in the Twins. The Bombers come to the series with their hands effectively tied behind their backs. Sir Sidney and Darrell Rasner pitch two of the games against Minnesota.(Note to Cashman: Getting a starting pitcher is more of a priority than addinga good lefty reliever.) So I'm not exactly optimistic about a sweep, but baseball is unpredictable in a good way, sometimes.
