First off, our warmest congratulations to Paul-SF, new daddy, as the Missus and he welcomed Jocelyn-SF into the world yesterday morning. Hooray!
Jon Lester's shutout last night gave the Red Sox a four games to two lead in the season series. Today we see Josh Beckett face off against Darrell Rasner. I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday.
Comment away.

Rasner playing with fire in the early going here. Sox tie it at 3-3. Sterling called it a great catch by Damon and then reversed himself. Listening to him is infuriating. Damon hurt on the play and coming out. That's just what we need.

ih- oddest play i've ever seen. NESN had the worlds most amazing camera angle of the whole thing. we'll be seeing this one for a while.
Posted by: sf rod | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 02:12 PM
Sterling said Damon only knew the ball was still on top of the wall because the cameraman pointed him toward it. True?
Posted by: IronHorse (yf) | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 02:14 PM
Ellsbury caught stealing on a pitchout. Nice. Kid's fast.
Posted by: IronHorse (yf) | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 02:26 PM
Yanks making Beckett work very hard here in the 4th which is nice to see, but no runs...yet. First and second with one out and Robbie up.
Nothing broken on Damon apparently.

Great sliding catch in foul territory by Ellsbury. Big play as the Yanks were threatening. Melky up.
Posted by: IronHorse (yf) | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 02:45 PM
Melky plunked. Bases loaded for Molina with 2 outs.
Posted by: IronHorse (yf) | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 02:48 PM
Molina grounds out, but at least they get Beckett over 75 pitches here in the 4th. If we can go to a battle of the bullpens tied or close to it, it will be a major victory for Rasner...
Posted by: IronHorse (yf) | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 02:51 PM
Lowell 2-run dnger...so much for major victories for Rasner.
Posted by: IronHorse (yf) | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 03:00 PM
Guess I'm glad I have to work today.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 03:27 PM
You can't give up yet, IH, as soon as the Sox go to the 'pen, a victory could well belong to Rasner.
Posted by: rootbeerfloat | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 03:31 PM
stuck at work today too ag.
would have been nice for beckett to pitch into the 7th, but he's over a 100 and likely not to go out for the 7th.

Condolences, rod.
Oki is up in the pen.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 03:39 PM
Oki is up? Turning off the radio.... Can't bear to listen...

another squandered opportunity for the sox. 1st and 3rd with no one out and it nets nothing. nice work tek.

Aaaaand the wheels come flying off.

What's up with a .220 hitter wearing gear with his name on it? What next, personalized shoes for Coco Crisp?
Posted by: A YF | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 04:05 PM
Not yet.. it's loaded with two away.. MDC coming on for Oki
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 04:05 PM
MDC dealing to ARod with two down, juiced.
First pitch is high. The 1-0 is a change for a strike. ARod thought it was inside. The 1-1 is a low curve that ARod chases and is way in front of. The 1 and 2; curve away that ARod pulls on the ground to third; Lowell throws to second for the force to end the inning.
Blast it.

Holy crap. The bullpen did the job.
Mostly.
Posted by: I'mBillMcNeal | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 04:11 PM
That 1-0 was definitely inside.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 04:11 PM
Farns on for the Yankees.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 04:12 PM
Mini delay as the the ground crew tries to delete the puddles forming on the infield. I'm guessing they are going to be bring out the tarp.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 04:15 PM
I'm wrong. They are going to go with it. Mud Ball!
Posted by: attackgerbil | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 04:17 PM
ARod fields a roller from Lugo and picks up a tough error on the throw as the balls rolled through the wet grass, standing water and mud.
NOW they are going to put the tarp on.

Great, I tune in from Berlin (where it is also raining) and there's no baseball.
Bed calls, since it is 1020 here and I've been awake for nearly 36 hours!

Ich ein Berliner-SF!

Of course the scorer has to give ARod an error on that play, but water was kicking off the ball as it rolled to him through the grass, mud, and puddles. He almost slipped as he had to spin to make the throw, which hopped about four feet to the right and in front of Giambi, who couldn't backhand it. Jason had a decent chance at it but couldn't pull it in.

YES, IBM!

I am a jelly donut.
I am a jetlagged dummy for staying awake.
Go Sox!

Posted by: sf rod | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 06:18 PM
So I come in and see that the Sox are ahead so the first things I do is check the Tampa Bay score. Odd times.
Posted by: rootbeerfloat | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 06:23 PM
game.
i hear ya RBF. with TB up 4-0 on kc, it looks unlikely we'll pick up a game. with baltimore up by 7 on texas it looks as though the yanks will slide back into 4th in the east.
Posted by: sf rod | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 06:31 PM
So I'm sitting here cheering for KC to make a huge comeback. It's very disorienting.
