There is something so inherently funny and disarming about "Manny in the wall." I don't know what it is exactly. Maybe I'm pre-conditioned by years of Sesame Street with Oscar and his trash can.
I also pick up this whole Hollywood Squares vibe.
Manny Pearl.
It's just so funny.

He always reminds me of a child having fun. His everyday joy and general happiness (despite occasionally being interrupted by temper tantrums) are two traits that always makes me smile when I think of him.
Comparing him to Oscar the Grouch is genius AG! I didn't think of that 'til you mentioned it. Have you seen Avenue Q, by the way?

No, I haven't. I don't know much about it except that people love it. I'm on the wrong coast!

My brother and sister-in-law are in town for a few days and just saw Ave Q yesterday. They loved it. My brother pointed out puppets having sex and something about Muppet-songs with adult themes and lyrics. It all sounded pretty funny actually.

Download the soundtrack; obviously seeing the play itself is ideal, but the soundtrack alone will give you the general gist of everything and about 90% of the humour. All the best jokes are in the songs. If you were brought up on Sesame Street you'll greatly appreciate the adult parallels.

Some of the best songs:
-The internet is for porn
-Everyone's a little bit racist
-You can be as loud as you want when you're making love
-What do you do with a BA in English?
-My girlfriend who lives in Canada (my favorite)
-If you were gay

There's pretty much every skit for ya

Avenue Q pretty much kicks ass. 'The Internet is for Porn' is killer.

I haven't gotten around to seeing Avenue Q yet, but the music and lyrics are brilliant.
Manny-in-the-Wall also gives me a Laugh-In vibe. Next time, he'll pop out of there with a young Goldie Hawn.

I hate to admit it but Manny is growing on me. He has moved from being in my top (bottom?) 5 of most detested players in the league to just being very detested to now being just detested when he comes up to the plate with the game on the line.

> Laugh-In vibe
Oooh.. that's a good one.

All I can think of is this
Posted by: SF | Monday, July 14, 2008 at 02:23 PM
Really? Because all I can think of is how to get another decent outfielder so we never have to see his face again. But, that's just me.

The Laugh-In reference: Dead on.

Jeez, Brad.

Oh, don't take that the wrong way, SF. The keyboard seemed to distort my tone a 'bit. I thought your comment was funny, I was just trying to convey my level of contempt for the way Manny goes about his business.
It was funny for awhile, and then all the free passes started being handed out, and now, I'm just sick of the schtick.

Ath, how did you miss the best song of all?
"Schaaaadenfreude, making me feel glad that I'm not you!"
Schadenfreude is an amazing song. I still need to SEE the actual play - haven't had a chance yet - but I love the soundtrack and have the whole thing on my computer.
As for Manny... yeah, Manny-in-the-Monster is always good for a few laughs. :)

Brad - for some reason, it's the other way for me. At first I hated that he was doing really silly things and possibly causing distractions, but now I don't know if he's become a caricature in my mind, but he's definitely goofy enough to qualify. Except for, of course, when he's up with the game on the line.

"I'm just sick of the schtick."
Me too. I think he crossed the line when he started assaulting people.

i guess manny skipped out on the ASG player media day. he was the only player not in attendance. some people just like to get high to the beat of a different drummer. (and yes, undoubtedly manny smokes)
