What's that Einstein quote about repetition and insanity? We've been down this road 30 times before. I think Manny is playing with the Red Sox in 2016.

What the hell is going on today??? what's next...brett favre to the dolphins???

Nick Cafardo:

One major league official just told me the Sox are "stuck in neutral" concerning some of the moves they're trying to make.

Another said, "Nobody's trying harder. They're listening to Manny offers, but the big issue is trying to get a bat back that will protect David Ortiz in the lineup. They're not going to do something stupid just to get rid of him."

That seems to be the consensus at this hour and it changes by the minute.

There's been a lot of discussion on the Florida situation with Ramirez, but neither Jeremy Hermida or Josh Willingham really qualify as hitters who can protect Ortiz in the lineup

The Sox have a lot of feelers out there including for lefties Ron Mahay, Will Ohman and Scott Eyre and likely others. There's some talk by scouts and executives they may be in on Oakland's Huston Street or Seattle's J.J. Putz and have certainly discussed those players with Oakland and Seattle respectively

I have interest in Mahay and Ohman, and I think a Manny-for-Hermida deal wouldn't be that bad, actually, when you look at Hermida's age and numbers.

Also, ESPN and McAdam reporting the Sox and Marlins are in "serious" trade talks, according to the SOSH newsbots.

The ESPN link:

http://myespn.go.com/s/conversations/show/story/3511674

With less than 24 hours before the trade deadline, the Red Sox are engaged in serious conversations to trade Manny Ramirez to the Florida Marlins, as well as other teams. If the Red Sox make a deal with the Marlins, it is likely they would kick in money to offset Ramirez's salary, and they would look for three young players in return -- perhaps outfielder Jeremy Hermida or outfielder Josh Willingham, plus pitchers.

I just want to point what a poorly-written sentence this is from Cafardo: "That seems to be the consensus at this hour and it changes by the minute.

Seriously, that's awful.

Aaaaand from Edes, just moments after Gammons shows up on ESPN News to talk about how the Sox and Marlins are in negotiations over Manny/cash-for-Hermida/prospects:

OK, I'm hearing and reading the same thing you guys are on Manny and the Marlins. All I can tell you, gentle readers, is that it flies in the face of everything I've been told in the last hour-plus. Anything is possible, but I can't see it.

Edes vs. Gammo, journalistic cage match. Let's get it on!

I found it a clever Yogi-ism!

what's next...brett favre to the dolphins???

Man. One over the hill, probably over-rated quarterback stealing headlines from the other overrated quarterback casting shadows in south Florida.
I would pay to see those Marino quotes every Sunday.

Nick- there's Yogi-isms and there's "Block That Metaphor!" This one's more confused than clever, in my book.

No, see, the hour changes every minute! No, wait...

Please let this be true..

Pretty please.

Pretty please with a cherry on top.

Pretty please with a cherry on top being served by a hot blonde woman in a maid outfit.

Can I be any clearer where I stand here?

"Block That Metaphor" should be a game show. It would still be more literate than Wipeout.

K -
I would love nothing more than to see Farve lead the fish to a super bowl. I won't happen, but man, would that be great.

Heh heh, I get perverse pleasure out of Wipeout. I know it's a Japanse rip-off, really crude, perhaps even a sign of all cultures' descent into madness, but I laugh my ass off every time one of those fools bounces around on the "big balls".

(Probably will wear out its welcome even with a simpleton like me inside of a couple more months.)

"What the hell is going on today??? what's next...brett favre to the dolphins???"

No Brett Favre to the Yankees. They need his enthusiasm.

Uh...Sox gamer?

His leadership alone will get us to the playoffs.

"...Unless teams are asking for a lot more from the Sox than they are from the Yanks..."...from the "pudge" thread

paranoid paul?...

sox fans seem to already being throwing a 'former' hero under the bus even before he leaves...at least you waited until after pedro and nomar left before you dissed them...fun stuff

in the meantime, gammons is melting down on espn arguing with phillips about francona's ability to manage manny...funny s***...sorry guys but i love seeing you guys face the same bs that we have from time to time...

from mlbtraderumors.com.. Ramirez would go to the Marlins, while Jeremy Hermida would go to the Pirates, and Jason Bay would go to the Red Sox.

Phillips really can be an idiot.

"...Phillips really can be an idiot...."

or, his point may be that franc-y has been an enabler, and now it's biting him on the keester....in that sense, and i'm no phillips fan, he's got a point...
