Molina is a better man than me. He actually was able to run after the ball after that incident. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have bothered.
The thread title? It has to be from a Mel Brooks movie, but that's just a guess.

Yeah, pretty amazing that he ran down that ball. He deserves a medal, cause I sure as hell would have been rolling around on the ground.

In my experience, I have about 3 seconds between the point of impact and when the pain hits me like a truck. Looks like Molina tried to make good use of his 3 seconds.

Hint on the thread title:
It was uttered by Martin Short/
(good guess, Nick. Not Mel, though)

Martin Short in a kilt = hilarious

Shoot me!

By "hilarious" I meant "vomit inducing"

At the end of one's life, one method to judge a man's life is probably by what, if anything, he has dedicated to his memory.
I now have a video of a man being hit with a hard ball in the penis. Mother would be so proud.
Oh, and for those who weren't watching the YES broadcast, one of the most precious parts was when Kay and Singleton were reviewing the tape, since it wasn't all that clear at first where exactly Molina got hit - it all happened so fast. As the super slow-mo tracked the sphere hurtling to its most private of destinations and then scoring a direct hit, the broadcasters just went silent for several seconds. Total loss of words. Plus they were probably speechless with a combination of cringing and guilty laughter.

Martin Short reading the phonebook = hilarious
He's one of those guys that could take the worst dreck any writer threw at him and make it FUNNY.
From what I've read, when Bill Murray wrote skits for SNL his notes would have a section of scripted material, then..
Gilda does something funny
.. then back to the script. I'm betting that's what it must be like when working with Martin Short.

"Barney's movie had heart, but "Football in the Groin" had a football in the groin.
And then there's this.

"Barney's movie had heart, but "Football in the Groin" had a football in the groin.
I love that Simpsons episode.

Short uttered the phrase in a brilliant and canceled sitcom, in which he was unable to walk. More hints needed?
Posted by: SF | Tuesday, July 01, 2008 at 11:57 AM
Jimminy Glick?
Posted by: Atheose | Tuesday, July 01, 2008 at 11:59 AM
Wait Jiminy Glick was able to walk, he was just fat as hell. Sadly the extent of my Martin Short knowledge is his SNL days and The Three Amigos.

In this sitcom he was carried everywhere. When he said "to the nuts!", his servant carried him such that his face was about three inches from Jason Bateman's penis, to which Short carps to his servant "the bridge mix, you idiot, the bridge mix!"
That oughta give it completely away.

It's a crime how "that show" was treated. One of the funniest, most intelligent sitcoms ever. HDNet (thankfully) broadcasts reruns.

It sounds vaguely familiar but I just can't place it. IMDB isn't jogging any memories, nor does a google search help.
Posted by: Atheose | Tuesday, July 01, 2008 at 06:01 PM
Okay seriously, what's the answer?
Posted by: Atheose | Tuesday, July 01, 2008 at 06:21 PM
You must not be Googling the right terms, Ath. Not knowing the show myself, I googled the two actors SF mentioned, plus thekey phrase, and the answer was the first in the list...

> Not knowing the show myself
If you Netflix, you owe it to yourself to queue it up.

Wait so it IS Arrested Development? He only appeared in one episode! Sorry, when I read the clues first I got the impression that it was a show he starred in.
Posted by: Atheose | Tuesday, July 01, 2008 at 06:28 PM
I never understood why everyone thought that show was so great. I watched two or three of the first episodes and was very "bleh" towards it. All my friends said I was crazy.
And just so you guys don't think I'm a humourless loser, here are some comedy shows I do love:
-SNL
-30 Rock
-The Office
-Southpark
-Friends
-Scrubs
-Two and a Half Men
-It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

I'd like to go on record as saying Arrested Development is totally awesome (except parts of the 3rd season, specifically the entire "Mr. F" storyline with Charlize Theron).
"I won them at army."
"Your wife works at a restaurant? Does she get a shift meal or does she just get half-price on select menu items?"
"Steve Holt!"
Posted by: Devine | Tuesday, July 01, 2008 at 06:48 PM
I have a friend whose name is actually Steve Holt. He gets a lot of people shouting out his name. Pretty funny.

Ath:
Start at the beginning. You need to see the opening episodes of AD. It holds up out of sequence, but it really sings in sequence. You will be rewarded.
David Cross bringing a pack of gays singing West Side Story to what is effectively a knife fight is one of the great commercial television moments of all time. Sid Caesar would have been proud.
Posted by: SF | Tuesday, July 01, 2008 at 07:04 PM
Okay, I'll give y'all the benefit of the doubt and watch them from the beginning in sequence. I'll report back on my decision in a few days.
Posted by: Atheose | Tuesday, July 01, 2008 at 07:10 PM
> watch them from the beginning in sequence
Please do.. and allow the actors to get some legs. It really takes off after a few episodes.
