an inauspicious start for lester. no more ace talk for this guy.
Posted by: sf rod | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 01:28 PM
All hope was abandoned. Of course, unless the Yanks win out the rest of the season. That would be something..
Posted by: Lar | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 01:29 PM
rod- is that better? re: Lester :)
Posted by: dw (sf) | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 01:31 PM
Ah, there's the ARod we all know and love. Well, know.
Posted by: Lar | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 01:34 PM
welcome aboard mr. kotsay.
Posted by: sf rod | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 01:34 PM
i've kinda been hoping one of the sox pitchers would single out a random yankee hitter and throw at his head everytime he comes up for no particular reason. maybe ransom is that guy.
Posted by: sf rod | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 01:52 PM
well. Lester got him in the big toe, does that count?
Posted by: dw (sf) | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 02:05 PM
I like this new Tek....
Posted by: rootbeerfloat | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 02:30 PM
Varitek? REALLY?
Posted by: Micah-SF | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 02:30 PM
Gotta love those legs of his.
Posted by: Brad | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 02:31 PM
Joe C just said "speed will never go into a slump". hahaha.
Posted by: Brad | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 02:32 PM
It's really pretty funny to follow along on LoHud during the day games.
Posted by: Brad | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 02:33 PM
Baaaaad call there.
Posted by: Micah-SF | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 02:34 PM
brad- lohud's been fun all season but the last 3 day's have been pure comedy. loving every minute of it. what's your handle over there?
Posted by: sf rod | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 02:38 PM
if you told me at the start of the season that our lineup would look like this on aug. 28th, i'd guess we'd be 15 games out and packing up for the winter.
Posted by: sf rod | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 02:43 PM
There's a game today???
Posted by: krueg | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 02:49 PM
Third HBP. Is there a "beanball war" going on? I'm without audio and video today. Only Gameday.
Posted by: I'm Bill McNeal | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 02:52 PM
looks like there's an extra 6 inches on the plate today. guess everybody wants to get on the road quickly today.
Posted by: sf rod | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 02:55 PM
Doesn't seem to be any intention on the HBP, no real reaction from the batters or the benches.
Posted by: rootbeerfloat | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 02:57 PM
Moooooooose for 20!
But of course, here's another chance for the meat of the lineup to do nothing..
Posted by: Lar | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:03 PM
I still don't know how this team doesn't score 900 runs. Injuries aside. Sigh.
Posted by: Lar | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:05 PM
All ARod has to do is not GIDP to score a run. Hrmm, where have I heard this before?
Posted by: Lar | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:06 PM
well he didn't GIDP...
Posted by: rootbeerfloat | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:07 PM
Thanks Yanks. Can't even get a win for Moose. Bah. I don't even know why I'm watching this.
Posted by: Lar | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:08 PM
ARod is so awesome...we are so lucky to have him for the rest of his career!!!! GO AROD!!!
Posted by: krueg | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:09 PM
I hope we keep Fat Bobby forever too!!! I'm sure Moose and Pettitte can pitch into their 50's easy...I hear 7 figure extensions baby!!!
Posted by: krueg | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:10 PM
I just realized who Ronan Tynan looks like:

Posted by: Brownie | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:26 PM
Bah, Ransom ruins the seventh.
Still, a phenomenal performance. Lester has really owned the Yanks this year.
Posted by: Micah-SF | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:36 PM
Oki-Doki were back in it!
Posted by: John - YF | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:38 PM
I HATE GIAMBI SO MUCH.
Posted by: Micah-SF | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:39 PM
I HATE GIAMBI SO MUCH.
Posted by: Micah-SF | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:39 PM
God I hate Giambi...
Posted by: rootbeerfloat | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:39 PM
And so goes the "Owner" of the Sox and his bid for a win. This spoiler role ain't so bad!
Posted by: John - YF | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:39 PM
Oki has a Timlin moment. So much for the return of the old reliable Oki.
Posted by: I'm Bill McNeal | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:39 PM
I smell a turning point...
I also know that Ronan Tynan will now be singing GBA every day at the stadium if they win this game. Hank is already on the phone with his booking agent.
Posted by: John - YF | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:43 PM
Oh, give it up, John.
Tynan is no Robert Merrill.
Posted by: I'm Bill McNeal | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:45 PM
IBM, I am kidding pal. In case you haven't read the rest of what I posted here I waved the White Flag already bud. Just having some fun, that's all.
Posted by: John - YF | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:46 PM
Personally I'm glad to see a little snark from a YF - it's unnerving to see them give up.
Posted by: rootbeerfloat | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:47 PM
John, me too.
Posted by: I'm Bill McNeal | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:48 PM
Too bad Moose can't win it. Ah well.
Posted by: Lar | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:49 PM
But we can pretend to be testy with each other to entertain everyone else.
Posted by: I'm Bill McNeal | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:52 PM
Well, that was an annoying - and annoyingly long - half-inning. Since Girardi's clearly incredibly determined to win this game, how long does Mo stay in?
Posted by: Micah-SF | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:53 PM
Ohhhh ok gotcha IBM. Wasn't sure.
Posted by: John - YF | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:54 PM
That seems like an odd move, bringing Rivera into a tie game. YF's, isn't this where Mo's been somewhat vulnerable this year? (Vulnerable of course, for Mo. Which is not the same as vulnerable for Craig Hansen.)
Posted by: I'm Bill McNeal | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:54 PM
I don't mean to be condescending, but you do know Merrill's history, right?
Posted by: I'm Bill McNeal | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:57 PM
I dont - know Merrill's history...
Posted by: rootbeerfloat | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 03:59 PM
I really would have preferred Masterson, not Oki, replace Lester back there.
Posted by: I'm Bill McNeal | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:00 PM
For the longest time, whenever Merrill sang the national anthem at Yankee Stadium, the Yankees won. Or so it seemed.
And they always seemed to bring him in at just the right time. It was almost uncanny.
Posted by: I'm Bill McNeal | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:01 PM
Turning point again!
Posted by: Lar | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:05 PM
Jeter demands an error.
Posted by: Lar | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:06 PM
Don't mess with Ronan!!! He sings at the Sabres games too...
ARod- 0-4 3k's
Worth every penny...
Posted by: krueg | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:07 PM
Even Jeter sucks now...great.
Posted by: krueg | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:07 PM
$100 says Bay comes around to score...
Posted by: krueg | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:08 PM
Wow. A-Rod amazingly impotent in this series.
Posted by: I'm Bill McNeal | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:08 PM
this would be a beauty spot for kotsay to endear himself to the faithful.
Posted by: sf rod | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:08 PM
Are you kidding Bill????
Posted by: krueg | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:09 PM
Guess I owe you guys $100...
Posted by: krueg | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:13 PM
ummmmmm....where did those last two pitches miss?
Posted by: sf rod | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:24 PM
Can't figure out what's going on.
My Gameday keeps freezing and the mlb.com front page already has the game in extra innings.
Posted by: I'm Bill McNeal | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:25 PM
Didn't miss by much.. especially that 2-2.
This is exciting.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:27 PM
giambi will hit into a DP...watch.
Posted by: krueg | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:28 PM
Are we in extras?
Posted by: I'm Bill McNeal | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:28 PM
Yahoo's boxscore finally updated to show Papelbon in the game. Sounds like the gamecasts didn't handle the pitching change well.
Posted by: FenSheaParkway | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:29 PM
Giambi wins the game with a single after falling in an 0-2 hole.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:29 PM
TURNING POINT!
Posted by: John - YF | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:30 PM
MLB.com still has the game going into extra innings. What a bunch of bozos.
Posted by: I'm Bill McNeal | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:30 PM
Pitch hung belt high just off the plate.. Jason reached out and stroked it to left center.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:30 PM
yay. we won. i'm so happy.
Posted by: krueg | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:30 PM
Not gameday, but the mlb.com front page.
Posted by: I'm Bill McNeal | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:31 PM
Normally, I'd be upset by this. But, somehow today, it just seems like it's okay. I don't know if it's because the Yanks just aren't in it, or if it's becuase they really were supposed to win it, the last game against these two in this house.
Posted by: Brad | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:31 PM
I think we're going to see the greatest run for the post-season since Colorado in 2007.
Posted by: walein | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:33 PM
I loathe Giambi's fat, ugly, thong-wearing steroid-fueled ass.
Posted by: Micah-SF | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:34 PM
> steroid-fueled ass
Have you seen him run? I don't think the fuel went there.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:35 PM
Wouldn't be surprised if the following happened:
Papelbon, having lost all confidence, turns into Brad Lidge of a couple years ago.
The Yankees run off 12 straight wins where the starting pitcher (after giving up less than 3 runs) figures into the game's decision only twice.
Hank Steinbrenner says something which translates onto the back-page of the Post as "OOga-booga---ugggghhhhhhh"
Alex Cora becomes the only productive hitter on the Sox for the next 3 weeks.
Just telling you what I saw; and there were all kinds of scientific methods being employed in those predictions.
Posted by: walein | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:38 PM
Pinching lefy Jason against lefty Oki for a righty makes Joe look brilliant.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:38 PM
Stinks losing today, but beating Baltimore, Toronto, and New York consecutively on their home turf...yeah, I'd have signed up for it.
Posted by: Devine | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 04:51 PM
Beckett scratched from tomorrow's start against ChiSox.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 05:00 PM
Never mind about the genius thing.. I didn't realize it was Molina.... oops.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 05:06 PM
Anyone get the sense that the sox arent being totally honest about Beckett's arm here? Thats 3 starts he has been scratched from now. That doesnt sound like something that happens from sleeping wrong on one's arm...
Posted by: Sam-YF | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 05:51 PM
Only 6 games back!
Posted by: Lar | Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 06:03 PM
The question is, will Pete Abraham now berate Terry Francona for not being up front about Beckett's injury?
