Yay Bay. Deep and gone. 1-0.

I must be having an acid flashback or something...DID JASON VARITEK JUST HIT A HOME RUN??
Posted by: stuck working | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 07:24 PM
Wow. Tek really hit the hell out of that one. 2-0. Got the pitch he wanted, I guess.
Posted by: Devine | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 07:25 PM
Yay Bay? Is that pig Latin?
Posted by: I'mBillMcNeal | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 07:29 PM
Too bad Atheose isn't around - he usually has something very creative about Tek and homeruns.

Steve Phillips told Mikey K tonight that he think Beckett has some health issues that Beck is hiding. He cited the way Beck has been throwing his elbow out, or something like that.
Stevie said he still think the Red Sox will win the division. K pointed to Dice-K as an example of the RS problems, proving he ain't paying attention.

Maybe every time Tek gets a hit, ATH could type "SQUIRT GUN" instead of his "LASER SHOW" homage to Pedroia.
Posted by: stuck working | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 07:33 PM
Joe C. and Obie going off on Jeff Kent for his comments about Vin Scully. Pretty funny.
Posted by: I'mBillMcNeal | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 07:35 PM
Yes, I feel quite vindicated for thinking Jeff Kent is an ass.
Posted by: rootbeerfloat | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 07:38 PM
Doesn't everyone think Kent is an ass, RBF? I mean, wasn't he the guy managed to be a bigger jerk than Bonds? That's not easy.
Ripping on Vin Scully is like breaking Santa's nose as far as I'm concerned.
Posted by: stuck working | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 07:40 PM
Some idiot from LA once defended Kent to me so I wasn't sure. Glad to hear.
Posted by: rootbeerfloat | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 07:48 PM
I'd like a replay of "strike three" on Crisp there.
Posted by: Devine | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:02 PM
Agreed, Devine, but what are the odds Coco would ever get the benefit of the doubt in the batter's box?
Posted by: stuck working | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:03 PM
Yeah, I know, sw...but that pretty much just increases my desire to see umpires replaced (or at least highly aided) by computers/robots.
2-1 on Huff's blast.
Posted by: Devine | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:07 PM
Boy, what's got into Huff this year? And can he loan Tek some?
Posted by: stuck working | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:09 PM
So how did I miss this ... Maddon IBBed Hamilton with the bases loaded in the 9th yesterday?
BALLS, man. That's balls.
Posted by: I'mBillMcNeal | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:10 PM
The walk to Millar bothers me more than the homer from Huff.
Posted by: Devine | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:10 PM
Brought the winning run to the plate too, IBM.
Posted by: Devine | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:11 PM
pitching around dusty to face papi.
Posted by: sf rod | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:15 PM
and it worked. dp for papi.
Posted by: sf rod | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:17 PM
Whoa, am I the only for whom the most recent comments now appear at the top instead of the bottom? Disorienting.
Posted by: stuck working | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:19 PM
And now back to normal, after posting that. Odd.
Posted by: stuck working | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:21 PM
Yeah, sw, had that happen to me a couple times in the past few months.
Posted by: Devine | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:26 PM
I figured that this would be a close, pitchers' duel kind of game, but my expectations were raised a little by the erly display of power. The bats are doing very little to respond to Paul's post earlier today.
Posted by: stuck working | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:33 PM
uhg. tampa bay doing what the sox and yanks couldn't....beating the angels. never thought this season would come down to rooting against the twins and white sox (who are down 3-1 to sea).
Posted by: sf rod | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:46 PM
coco finally reaches base, only to get caught stealing. i'm pretty tired of seeing him in the lineup everyday. he's reaching lugo-ian status in my book.
Posted by: sf rod | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:48 PM
Oy. Putting the one-run road game streak/curse to the test.
Posted by: Devine | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:50 PM
White Sox tied it, for those interested, Twins down 1-0 at home to Oakland.
Posted by: stuck working | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:54 PM
Millar doubles with 1 down...need to get the next two.
Posted by: Devine | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:56 PM
Two down.
Posted by: Devine | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:59 PM
Another terrific outing from Lester. God, I love you reliable he is now. What a complete change from how I felt about him before.
Posted by: stuck working | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 09:02 PM
That's three and unfortunately, I gotta go home. Hold 'em, bullpen! (Oy.)
Posted by: Devine | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 09:02 PM
YAH, Bay-Bee!
Posted by: I'mBillMcNeal | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 09:10 PM
Haw haw, you just walked Coco Crisp to load the bases -- who stupid must you feel, no matter what happens next?
Posted by: stuck working | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 09:21 PM
coco walks again. he's basically doubled his OBP for the season in one game.
Posted by: sf rod | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 09:21 PM
if you were forced to take one, coco or melky? together they make some kind of supernatural cereal bonanza of letdown.
Posted by: sf rod | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 09:25 PM
Man, the Jason Bay and Jon Lester show tonight. So easy to root for these guys. Love it!
Posted by: Paul SF | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 09:27 PM
Or, more relevantly, sf rod: Coco or Andy Marte? Amazingly, the answer turns out to be Coco.
Posted by: stuck working | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 09:29 PM
laa-3 tb-5 top 7
oak-3 min-0 top 6
sea-4 chw-5 bottom 5
i hate relying on other teams. just win and everything will sort itself out.
Posted by: sf rod | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 09:30 PM
Angels within 1.... Go Torii Hunter?
Posted by: rootbeerfloat | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 09:31 PM
Are we really reduced to rooting for the Angels? Is this what we've come to as Red Sox fans?
Posted by: Paul SF | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 09:31 PM
I'm not proud of it, but it doesn't seem like anyone else can beat the rays r9ight now.
Posted by: rootbeerfloat | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 09:35 PM
Ah, sweet, sweet insurance run.
Posted by: stuck working | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 09:47 PM
Ah, another sweet, sweet insurance run.
Posted by: stuck working | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 09:50 PM
Women's trampoline in the Olympics? Huh?
Posted by: I'mBillMcNeal | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 09:55 PM
OK, who had "strikeout looking" in the Tek pool? I had my money on a weak grounder to SS -- shows you what I know!
Posted by: stuck working | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 10:00 PM
This is a good win, off Guthrie, who has always pitched well against us. Lester came up big when we needed him.
...
It's time we admit that this Division is TB's to lose.
Posted by: I'mBillMcNeal | Monday, August 18, 2008 at 10:17 PM
I skip a game cause I'm out of town and the Sox cruise to a victory behind Lester and Bay. Man, I really AM bad luck.

Ken Rosenthal (possibly the ONLY person associated with Fox I respect) on Dan Patrick's XM show this AM.
Patrick asks if Manny will get the big $$$ based on what he's done with LA so far.
Rosenthal says he was with the Red Sox yesterday in Baltimore and asked that same question of a Red Sox official.
RSO replies that something will happen. It might not big something we would consider a big deal, but something will happen. Maybe a spat with Jeff Kent, or maybe Vin Scully talks to much. But something will happen and that will kill it in LA for Manny.
