We should add Joba and Lester to the list. They so far have panned out. Ill also say while the luster has diminished considerably the book should still be out on Hughes. Yes he's been hurt two years in a row but this year seemed to be a freak injury. If he continues this trend then we can say he is a failed prospect but he could come around with a full season under his belt. In contrast, Ive basically given up in IPK and dont expect much from Clay....

Hughes is made of glass. How is he going to stay healthy when he is what, 22 and can't? What happens when he gets up there around 30? I'm not saying he's finished, just that I don't expect much of him anymore. Next up on the hyped Yankee prospect pitching carousel? Andrew Brackman.

Yeah, I usually give up on young guys too in their first full year in the big leagues. Normally, that first ten or fifteen starts is a great indicator on what to expect from the rest of the careers.

I'm not using these stats to say one way or another about the future of the pitchers. Just as a way to show how amazingly all three have fallen off the map. It's pretty remarkable -- and sobering. The young pitcher who deserves the hype today could be the guy in AA tomorrow.

I just have much lower expectations. Hughes was hyped as the next big thing, and to this point he has been anything but...

If he gets it together, awesome! But a 22 year old that gets hurt in a strong gust of wind worries me...has anyone really said how he broke a rib? How the hell do you break a rib pitching unless you are nailed with a liner or a bat?

Krueg - it's possible to crack a rib sneezing! Wakefield had a cracked rib, and no one was sure why. These pitchers put such a strain on their systems, anything is possible.

nick- really wasn't comparing. just odd that these two would be facing each other in a AAA game. but i do feel the prior vs. hughes comp holds water. both have the same easy pitching motion that's inexplicably turned into DL stints.

the mets "generation k" vs. the yanks "generation trey" is an easy comp to make though. if joba is isringhausen.....i feel bad for ian and phil. pulsipher and wilson no longer throw baseballs.
