YFSF might be sticking around during these tough times, but there are going to be changes. To save money, YF and SF have re-organized YFSF Inc. Departments have been eliminated (Goodbye, Misc Tag!), writers have been reassigned. Unfortunately, the quality of work around here will suffer. Those expecting to read Paul's impressive statistical master works will be disappointed. Wheareas before, you would get the chance to read a lengthy and interesting essay, complete with statistics and anecdotes, about Red Sox history, today you will have to read the efforts of your's truly--he of the run-on sentence, poor grammaritude, etc etc. I have taken over Paul's job. Thus, this gamer.
This is probably the worst gamer in the history of the site: Solopsistic and annoyingly self-consciously--filled with annoyingly annoying adverbs, reduncies and self-conscious late 90's-style literary world wink-at-the-camera fiction. This has to be the most crappy self-conscious attempt at self-conscious humor ever!
In the future, Paul's impressive pieces will turn into one line crap from me.
Here's a first attempt at a post titled "The 2008 Red Sox in a Historical Context":
This year's version of the Red Sox is better than the 1993 version. Good night and good luck-N
Okay. Now you can read a better gamer above. But if you're a Yanks fan, maybe you want to choose this gamer to comment on. We have nothing but navel-gazing to do these days anyway.

WHY????
Why is Masterson still in there?
Posted by: I'mBillMcNeal | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:16 PM
If the Red Sox get out of this and go on to the win the game, it will be a minor miracle.
Posted by: SoxFan | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:16 PM
I'm really trying hard not to do something stupid and injure myself right now.
Posted by: Micah-SF | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:18 PM
I absolutely can NOT take a must-win game with Dice-K on the mound.
Posted by: rootbeerfloat | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:18 PM
FUCK YES! Ball comes out but well after the tag. Lucky play for the Sox, Angels being too aggressive.

Manny who?
Posted by: Atheose | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:33 PM
oh my god.
Help me. I live two hours from Tampa. I have to go to a wedding in Connecticut this weekend. Friday and Saturday. I am the best man.
Help me! What am I going to do???? :( :(
Posted by: Bostondreams | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:34 PM
Bostondreams - Announce you have broken your leg and cannot fly or be in the wedding.
Posted by: rootbeerfloat | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:37 PM
Bostondreams, your friend can find another best man. Depending on the timing you could run to a bar afterwards.
Game 3 is at 4:00 on Monday. What the fuck is that about?
Posted by: Atheose | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:38 PM
Manny Delcarmen, ath.
Manny Delcarmen.
Christ, I haven't sweat out a game like that since, what, 2004 ALCS?
Posted by: I'mBillMcNeal | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:39 PM
Dreams, yer gonna watch the game on TV like the rest of us.
I mean, why the fuk would you want to go to that hell hole for a game, anyway?
Posted by: I'mBillMcNeal | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:39 PM
Varitek has gotten a lot of flak this year, but without that great play the Angels might have taken the lead and put the pressure on us. He deserves a lot of credit for what he does for this team.
Bay OPS'ed 1.356 in the ALDS. I feel very comfortable with our chances on Friday.
Posted by: Atheose | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:41 PM
Scioscia did overmanage this game in the 9th.
Posted by: I'mBillMcNeal | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:43 PM
Bill,
I have gone to a victory parade, I was at opening day at Fenway this year..now I want to see the Sox in person in the playoffs.
Damnit. This better be a fucking AWESOME medieval freaking wedding.
Posted by: Bostondreams | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:45 PM
Medieval?
Oh, Christ.
you poor sap.
Posted by: I'mBillMcNeal | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:47 PM
Yeah Boston, my dad and I had tickets to Game 6 and 7 of the WS in 2004, so we didn't get a chance to see any post-season games live. I went to Opening Day this year, and that was special. But it's still not like a playoff game.
Posted by: Atheose | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:47 PM
After Jon Lester, the key players of this game were Jason Bay, Mark Kotsay and Jed Lowrie. Not a single one of them on the Opening Day roster.
Posted by: Paul SF | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:48 PM
And Mike Scioscia. He also was a key player for the Red Sox. Can't forget him! :-D
Posted by: Paul SF | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:51 PM
Nope, can't forget Scioscia.
That's the difference between Tito and Scioscia.
Tito knows when to manage and when to let the players play.
Posted by: I'mBillMcNeal | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:53 PM
Ath,
It was awesome on opening day for me. I hadn't been since the late '90's. It was a surprise 'babymoon' gift from my wonderful wife. Incredible.
But you may be right. Not like a playoff game.
Again, better be an awesome wedding. I'm a history teacher. I will be freaking critical now. Ugh
Posted by: Bostondreams | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:54 PM
I second-guessed him when he started Ellsbury over Crisp in Game 1. I second-guessed him when he played Cora the other night. I second-guessed him when he played Kotsay tonight. All of these were good decisions..
Francona knows more than me. I promise I'll start trusting you Tito!
Posted by: Atheose | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:55 PM
Nice dreams, I hadn't been to Fenway since I lived in MA in 1998-1999. Ahhh, Pedro.
Posted by: Atheose | Monday, October 06, 2008 at 11:56 PM
I still don't think Tito did a great job in this game with the bullpen management.
But he's earned some slack. And Scioscia has not. What a moron. Seriously, thanks Mike!
Posted by: Micah-SF | Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 12:02 AM
I'm still amazed. Last night felt like ALCS 2004 Game 4 in reverse...I really thought the Angels would win 3 in a row, especially after Masterson crossed up Tek.
Oh man, I'm so freaking excited for this Tampa series. It's AWESOME to have an all-AL East ALCS *WITHOUT* the Yanks. AWESOME.
PS Apologies to all YFs on the site.
Posted by: stuck working | Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 12:10 AM
I agree. Tito has been proven right by his lineup decisions thus far, but the results most definitely proved he was dead wrong on managing the bullpen tonight. Went to the Masterson well once too often.

Dear Julio Lugo,
Goodbye.
Love, The Red Sox
Posted by: Atheose | Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 12:16 AM
Incidentally...Lester is just..wow.
Dice-K starts Friday? Oh god..
Posted by: Bostondreams | Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 12:17 AM
Flipping between TBS and NESN to catch as much celebration footage as I can is hilarious. Ellsbury is so classy and Paps is so freaking dumb, it's hilarious.
Also, I like Granderson a lot as a broadcaster. Compared to other current player/broadcasters, he's really impressive.
Posted by: stuck working | Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 12:21 AM
"Incidentally...Lester is just..wow.
Dice-K starts Friday? Oh god..
"
Why would he? No games Tuesday, Wensday, Thursday.
That means Beckett on Normal rest, the Lester on Normal Rest, then Daisuke on extra rest. Even with Beckett's struggles last night, my money is on that setup. It maximizes Lester's appearances and minimizes Daisukes'

Since Lowell is off the roster for the ALCS, who's on in his place?
