The Future of Baseball?

It's got two X chromosomes, throws a sidearm knuckleball, and aspires to be Tim Wakefield.

At least Pedroia would have someone with whom he would see eye-to-eye.

Sorry, that was off-sides.

While there have been women in men's golf and car racing, I have always thought that the MLB could be a trendsetter among the 4 major sports by having a female ball player.

A woman who had a power arm or some kind of plus breaking pitch could find a place as a middle reliever or even closer.

She might even be a better option than Mike Timlin.

Sorry, that was off-sides.

It's also very, VERY true.

There was a middle-school girl who struck out 18 batters in 6 innings in men's-baseball a year or two ago, but I haven't heard anything about her since then.

Seeing as it's in a "new, independent" league, it sounds like a publicity stunt. Kind of like when Phil Esposito put Manon Rheaume in an exhibition game to publicize the Lightning.

You know that's interesting, because if there were ever a woman to play in MLB she would have to be a knuckleballer. Hitting 68 mph with a knuckler is certainly possible, compared to other styles of pitching. Sign her, Theo!

"Sign her, Theo"

Noooo! I've spent too much time lobbying to get rid of the knuckleballer we have!!

Swiped from WasWatching today:

"King says the Yankees are preparing an offer for A.J. Burnett, “perhaps a five-year deal worth about $80 million.” Hard to say if those numbers are a guess or inside information. It would be a strong offer, dwarfing the Blue Jays’ four years, $54MM."

If this is true, Hank deserves some credit for backing up what he's said about buying planet Earth. Now, all that's left is to get K-Rod, Sheets and Tex, and the free agency sweep will be complete.:)

5 years for 80 mil? I didn't think anyone would offer him more than 4-year deal. I don't see the Red Sox matching that.

So we've got:

1. Sabathia
2. Wang
3. Chamberlain
4. Burnett
5. Pettitte/Moose

Ugh.

So we've got:

Who is going to make the other 45 starts?

For the Red Sox' sake I hope that's a question the Yankees are asking themselves in May!

I remember being quite nervous the offseason the Yankees signed Randy Johnson and Jaret Wright to big deals. I'm content to wait and see 1. who they will sign, and 2. for what terms.

A.J. Burnett for five years would be amazingly dumb, I think.

Well, it's been six days to think about a monstrous offer from CC.
I don't think he likes the idea of NY, and I think he's waiting to hear if anyone gets close enough to make it worth his while.
I don't think I want a guy who doesn't want me. But, we'll see.

And Pettitte wants 16million according to the fan.
