Signed today, avoiding arbitration. Javier Lopez also signed for a reported $1.35M for one year.

Well, this is welcome news to what has been a crappy day. It's nice to see some real numbers in the face of so much fluff today.

Theo extends his steak of never having a player go to arbitration.
Good news.

Not a bad deal, considering KRod gets 12. I wonder if Sox will go the "pay Paps a lot" route or the Beane "trade when his value is high" route. Of course, that assumes Paps continues his path.

I also wonder if the off-economy helped Theo do these contracts - can't imagine it hurts, I guess.

Why is there political propaganda on the front page? And what does it have to do with baseball?
Give me more posts about players sleeping with reporters!

Our Presidential inauguration is political propaganda? Interesting...
Good for the Sox...public enemy #1 remains on the Sox!

> Why is there political propaganda on the front page?
Because if we printed it on the back page, everyone would have to crawl behind their desks and look at the back of their monitors. Not comfortable.
> And what does it have to do with baseball?
Well, Paps, Lopez, and Nady signed. Otherwise, kind of a dry day for news... meanwhile, it's only the inauguration of the President of the United States of America. Not comfortable.
> Give me more posts about players sleeping with reporters!
WILCO, but two FUBARS:
1) can't get credentialed.
2) can't get any player's digits.
Oof. Really, that's really not comfortable. Really.
Wait, what's got your britches in a hitch?

In the meanwhile, Ryan Howard is asking for 18 mil. That's pretty high.

Why is there political propaganda on the front page?
Because it's our party and we'll cry (tears of joy) if we want to.

SF lands the blue ribbon this day with that referfence. Gore wins! Gore wins!

I, for one, love the front page AND love the fact that Paps is back for 2009. He is definitely the kind of wacko you'd like playing for you instead of against you.

I bet Obama throws a strike.

My heart tells me we need to pay Paps and keep him for a decade, but my brain tells me we shouldn't overpay. With Manny gone Paps is pretty much our only source of crazy shenanigans.

What about Pedroia? Pedroia totally engages in shenanigans. Or at least lots of entertaining trash talk.
Anyway, I'm cool with President Hopey McChange on the front page. It is kind of a big deal, and one of the things that Red Sox fans and Yankees fans are likely to agree on (Boston and New York being pretty liberal cities and all). Of course, this may not apply to the specific subset of fans who visit THIS site, but it applies to me so I'm rather happy.
I'm glad we didn't have to go to arbitration with Paps. Hopefully we can work out a 3-year deal or so at some point.
