Mark Feinsand writes that "Alex Rodriguez has successful surgery on torn labrum in his right hip". Not being a doctor, I must suppose that "successful" means that he didn't expire, or maybe that they didn't need to lose the leg.
"Yankees bosses are hopeful A-Rod will be back sometime in May. Phillipon said there was an 85-90% chance that Rodriguez would be able to play the rest of the season without further problems."
Well, that's good news. I know what Dr. Phillipon meant about "problems" and the rest of the season, but come on. Hahahahahahah. Hahahah. Hah!

"Phillipon said there was an 85-90% chance that Rodriguez would be able to play the rest of the season without further problems, within the control of medical professionals, excluding psychiatry."

Well, if the Yankees need extra pitching to make up for the offense you won't get while Rodriguez is out, we'll give you Wes Littleton.

What is it with the Sox acquiring players with last names that are towns in Massachusetts?
Lowell
Wakefield
Littleton
Becket(t)
Players we should expect the Sox to eventually acquire:
Everett (Adam)
Upton (BJ or Justin)
Bourne (Michael)
Franklin (Ryan)
Gardner (Brett!)
Hudson (Orlando)
Lee (Derrek or Carlos)
Sheffield (Gary)
And if a player ever has the last name of Mashpee, I will eagerly await his Sox debut.

@LocklandSF: There's no reason to be so stingy. The Sox should be kind to their neighbors to the south. We could also offer them Traber.
@AndrewYF: I think it's part of their dastardly plan to convince more people to come see the Sox (hey, look, we got a player named after you!)
That's not all--here are some more (mostly less well-known) players that could be on the Sox' target list for the future.
Adams (Mike or Russ)
Bourn(e) (Michael)
Hamilton (Josh)
Hanson (Tommy)
Holland (Derek)
Lee (Cliff)
Milton (Eric)
Norton (Greg)
Palmer (Matt)
Randolph (Steven)
Russell (Adam)

That's a terrific list, Andrew. Nicely done! For my part, I've been waiting for the Sox to find, sign and develop one Scott Swamp, but it hasn't materialized yet.

Is Mashpee a brewing town? I wonder how else that name would have developed.

Pretty sure it's based on a native American name.

This is a totally brilliant comment!

(Carlton) Fiskdale, Warren (Spahn) (Boston Braves), (Fred) Lynn, Wades Corner (Boggs), (Jason) Bayview and Eldon Antassawamock.
OK, I made up one of those.
