Yeah, got worried for a second there. Then I realized that a. when thhe Sawx inevitably do make a move this year, it almost certainly won't be for an SP, ans b) Peavy, while certainly good, isn't as good as his numbers, pitching in a terrific pitchers park (take a look at his home road splits) in the NL. I'd guess he's a 4.00 or so ERA guy in the AL.

Poreda is the best part of the trade. He should be very good. Add him to Matos, Inman and Blanks and the Padres are going to be good in the near future. Add to that what they can get back for their other older/veteran type players and they are headed in the right direction.

Looks like the Padres were right to wait instead of dealing him in the off-season. This looks like a better deal for them than the one with the Cubs.

Poreda: "Athletic pitcher with exceptional arm strength/action that provides both velocity and movement. Works off FB that has late sink, but his SL is developing into a solid pitch and is tough to pick-up from his low ¾ slot. Has trouble changing speeds and pitches with effort. Pitched to contact more in 2008, though K ability could increase significantly with improvement of slider. 88-97 MPH two-seam fastball. Command. Arm action. Deceptive low ¾ delivery."

Doh! You had me.

I think Peavy is going to veto the whole thing.

You and his agent, Brad. Peavy likes Southern California and the National League, and this proposed trade takes him away from both. Maybe the Cubs will step up, at last, in response?

Yeah, I recall the Sox and Yanks being the only AL teams to whom he was willing to accept a trade. There's also some personal considerations: If he keeps playing in Petco, he's on a HOF track.
