Congratulations to the great one, Mariano Rivera, on his 500th career save and 1st career RBI. All class, all the time. Bravo 42.

You know, walking the pitcher is always pathetic. So is walking the pitcher when you're the highest paid reliever in the game. It's another thing to walk the pitcher with the bases loaded, too. Throw in the fact that it's a RELIEF pitcher, not a starting pitcher, and you're one lousy POS.

I don't even want to think about where the Yankees would have been all these years without Mo...the greatest closer of all time, no question. I just hope he gets one more ring before he hangs it up.

Ath - Mo didn't work _too_ hard for that one, but he earned some hitting respect - he had a really good hack and fouled a slightly high (maybe a few inch higher than belt) fastball straight back.

But definitely awesome anyway you look at it, the fact that Mo had a good enough eye to lay off a few pitches (though he might just be cautious..)

Okay, enough about the RBI, congrats on the save!

ath, normally i like to read your comments, but to post this comment again here [you put something similar on the sox game thread, so this 2nd one is a bit redundant] on a thread that should be for celebrating a player that fans of all allegiances agree is not only a remarkable talent, but a class act, is a bummer... since sf isn't going to scold you, i'll do it for him...i'm sure k.rod didn't intend to walk 'the pitcher', and he did get 2 strikes on him, so give mo a bit of credit for working it a little too...

If Mo doesn't take that hack, K-Rod doesn't walk him so yeah, he gets some credit. Though still pretty inexcusable for K-Rod to walk anyone there, let alone a guy with 2 career ABs. And, to quote Brian Bruney (re: K-Rod), "couldn't have happened to a better guy".

As for Mo, there is not much more anyone can say. He pretty much does everything (on-field, off-field, etc) better than anyone else in his position, and has for an astonishing number of years now. It will be icredibly hard to see him go.

Walking a relief pitcher with the bases loaded is like 95% the pitcher's fault. Mo absolutely deserves some credit, and he has good form on his swing (he looked like Frank Thomas when he flew out the other night!), but walking a relief pitcher with the bases loaded in a one-run game is pretty much the most laughable thing a closer can do. I was happy to see it happen to K-Rod.

I'm sorry for not giving Mo credit for his 500th save and his RBI, which he definitely deserves. I've always loved Mo, and I've said so here as well. I'm not trying to take anything away from Mo. 500 saves is a helluva thing to accomplish, and he's a great guy overall.

no problem buddy....as a fan of a rival, i understand your frustration with the mets utter futility against the yanks in these 3 games...lost in the mo celebration, i almost forgot that wang pitched his best game of the season...not saying much, i know, but he was good enough to put mo in the position where he could execute "the" save...it would have been sweeter coming against the sox, but until we figure out a way to beat them, mo won't be getting any saves against them... ;) anyway, it bears repeating, mo's the best taking into account his entire body of work, and taking nothing away from hoffman and the other great ones...

I guess I posted what I did because I hate KRod more than I like Mo, and that's saying a lot. And it's certainly significant when the highest paid reliever in the sport walks a relief pitcher with the bases loaded in a one-run game. Keep in mind that unlike starting pitchers, relievers never take batting practice!
