"I've made a huge mistake." -- Gob Castillo.
Such has been the season of the Arrested DevelopMets, as the Yankees got the benefit of a rare gaffe by one of the game's top defenders at his position. Hopefully there will be no gift-horse mouth-looking as they send work-horse Andy Pettitte to the bump at the Stadium. The Bombers are 9-3 in games where Andy gets the rock. The Mets send Fernando Nieve (who?), throwing his first start in The Show since his big-league debut season in Houston's 2006 campaign, so maybe Andy knows something about the kid.
It's one of the FOX games; hopefully you can enjoy some Saturday afternoon baseball on the telly, just as the baseball gods originally intended. Lineups to follow, comment away.

I wish AG, but alas, the game is blacked out, per usual, in good old memphis. so bummed. I guess I'll just have to gamecast it again.

sorry krueg.. blackout saturdays is possibly the most evil thing ever perpetrated upon the baseball fan.
rain delay likely.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 03:38 PM
..line-ups added.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 03:44 PM
i really don't understand the whole saturday blackout policy...what was MLB thinking??? Nothing more frustrating...except voting in Iran perhaps.
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 03:55 PM
> what was MLB thinking?
You give them too much credit.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:01 PM
Guess so AG...weather looks good in the pregame show???
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:04 PM
> weather looks good
guess so. Pete says it's a go.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:06 PM
Nice...game on! Let's Go Yankees!!!
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:12 PM
Pettitte gets through the 1st...a lot of pitches though. over 20.
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:21 PM
Gotta DVR the game... on daddy duty. Checking out for now.. hopefully catch up by the fifth. Happy saturday!
Posted by: attackgerbil | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:24 PM
You too AG...enjoy raising another little YF!
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:26 PM
Very easy 1-2-3 inning for the no name pitcher for the Mets...
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:28 PM
Pettitte gives up a 2 run homer to the #8 hitter...0-2. awesome.
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:36 PM
another hit...pettitte is awful.
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:37 PM
RIDICULOUS non strike three call against Tatis...check out the Pitch FX charting of it:

It's pitch #8. And it immediately costs us 2 runs, as Santos homers following it.
Thanks, Ump.
Posted by: Mark - YF | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:38 PM
another hit...
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:41 PM
1.2 innings, 49 pitches, 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 BB...great job andy. Will we ever have pitching? Ever?
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:42 PM
Well in fairness that's a 1-2-3 inning if the home plate ump was competent.
Posted by: Mark - YF | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:44 PM
only 2 runs thankfully...we are going to need to score some runs at some point???
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:44 PM
If, ands, nuts and buts we'd all have a merry christmas Mark...ya know?
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:45 PM
ABOMB!!!! 1-2
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:47 PM
got one back...come and andy, get your head out of your ass. we need quality innings!
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:56 PM
one pitch, one out...that's better.
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 04:56 PM
struggling...but got out of it. WAY too many pitches. How in the world is his record so good? The guy seemingly gets knocked around every single start...not to mention we are going to have to go to the pen again. not good.
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 05:04 PM
Another no name pitcher lays our lineup down like nothing...
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 05:12 PM
OMG JOE BUCK JUST PROPOSED THE YANKS TURN PHIL FRANCHISE INTO A MIDDLE RELIEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! BECAUSE HE'S BEEN LIGHTS SO OUT!!!!!!!!
i think i'm now completely forever done with joe buck. wtf?!?!?!
Posted by: YF | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 05:12 PM
joe buck would have turned babe ruth into a pinch hitter. "wouldnt it really be great to have a bat like that coming off the bench?"
Posted by: YF | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 05:13 PM
83 pitches to get through 4 innings...
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 05:22 PM
I guess that's the one good thing about it being blacked out here YF...don't have to listen the Buck's idiocy.
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 05:23 PM
christ...2 pitches, 2 outs for mr. nobody. this is asinine.
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 05:26 PM
4 innings of nothing...great job guys. not.
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 05:30 PM
...and here is the meltdown. game is over. realistically, this should be our 5th loss in a row. So much for putting the Sox series behind us, huh??? This team is so frail mentally, how can anyone have any aspirations beyond a first round playoff exit at best? This team is weak, weak, weak...
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 05:38 PM
...and another run. you suck so badly pettitte. really, do us a favor and f-cking retire already. lost 4 out of 5. great job boys. joke of a team.
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 05:44 PM
finally got our 2nd hit in the 5th inning off of the nobody pitcher...impressive.
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 05:56 PM
now...can we get a 2 out hit with RISP??? history says not a chance in hell...
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 05:57 PM
surprise, surprise...choke job for jeter. great job.
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 05:59 PM
let's see what sorry excuse for a pitcher we puke out there this inning...
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 06:01 PM
Nieve, aka Mr. Nobody...5 IP, 1 ER, 2 hits so far.
Pettitte...5 IP, 11 HITS, 5 ER's
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 06:03 PM
1-2-3 inning for Ace. He is our only pitcher with any balls...
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 06:07 PM
damon is completely worthless. can't hit, can't play D...
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 06:10 PM
mr. nobady continues to mow us down with his awesomeness...what a spectacular lineup we have!
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 06:11 PM
god...we really do suck. unbelievable.
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 06:15 PM
we cannot get anyone past 3 innings in a start but the Mets get Nieve to give them 6 innings, 2 hits and 1 ER on they road, in Yankees Stadium...
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 06:17 PM
HR...game. fuck this.
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 06:20 PM
Oh, come on, krueg.
The Mets will find a way to blow it. You're fine.
Posted by: I'mBillMcNeal | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 06:24 PM
Yeap, I'm waiting for the Yanks to load the bases on a walk, a HBP and a catcher's interference, after which the catcher will accidentally hit the pitcher in the face with the ball, allowing all three runners to score while the Met infielders collide into each other like the Three Stooges in "Three Little Pigskins." The umpires will then award the game to the Yankees because they feel sorry for everyone at the ballpark, including themselves, who have had to endure the last two hours of Mets baseball.
Posted by: Paul SF | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 06:33 PM
Another pathetic effort from the yankees. all around garbage. no pitching, no hitting, no defense...this team is going nowhere. again.
Posted by: krueg | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 07:04 PM
I will be genuinely surprised if the Mets win this game. And yes, I am aware that it is 6-2 National League in the ninth inning. Nothing but a boxscore will make me feel certain about anything about the Mets the rest of this year
Posted by: FenSheaParkway | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 07:08 PM
That 2-1 to Matsui was low.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 07:18 PM
Now he's way behind and goes down swinging.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 07:18 PM
I have the game on but I can't even watch.
Posted by: FenSheaParkway | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 07:20 PM
Melky falls behind but works the count back to full, then grounds to Wright to end an eminently forgettable game.
Mets 6, Yanks 2.
Posted by: attackgerbil | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 07:22 PM
Lame. I found out it was 6-2 from a friend earlier on, and wow, they got 17 hits. It speaks how awful the Mets are currently that they got 17 hits and only 6 runs. Of course, the Yanks are even worse than that..
