> "desperately" trying to trade shortstop

Reminds me of the old joke, "First prize is a week-long all-expenses paid vacation in Cleveland. Second prize is two weeks."

If the Sox are willing to D(TM)FA and pay him anyway, I'd think that they could get a consolation prize from some team for Lugo + 90% of his salary. Well, unless it's already a foregone conclusion that they're preparing to make him available for free.

hey, if the Mariners can trade Yuneski to the royals, anything is possible!

Isn't this like a two year old story?

It's too bad Theo didn't contact the Royals before they traded for an even worse shortstop.

Andrew: yeah, that was pretty much my thought. "Oh come on, if they were willing to take BETANCOURT, surely Theo could have foisted Lugo off on them."

if it comes down to lugo or that lump of dirt, i'd go with the lump of dirt....

I still can't help wondering if there was some way the Sox could have gotten Beckett without letting Hanley go... Shortstops have not been Theo's strong suit (with the brief exception of Cabby).

I think the Sox offered Pedroia over Hanley but the Marlins insisted on Hanley.

I don't ever wonder this. Ever.

does Hanley really project to be a SS down the road though? His UZR at the position is kind of all over the place

Damn, good for the Marlins, focusing on tools rather than minor league performance (Pedroia was outperforming Hanely at the time).

Lugo is not in Toronto so they must be announcing something soon

Yep.. JUST DFA'ed him!!!

YaY!!!!!

Just annonunced on EEI
