I listened to the last four innings of the M's-Sox game on the radio last night, sitting in a parking lot in front of the market to hear the end of it. Devastating Drama. On to today. Garrett Olson has given up 10 home runs to the Red Sox and remains winless against Boston in seven career starts. Brad Penny took the loss against Atlanta though he gave up only two earned runs, and has given up only five earned in his last 22.7 innings spanning four starts. Drew leads off again, for the fifth time this year.

Saito walks the bases loaded and it costs him when Woodward bloops one over first. 4-3 Mariners top of the ninth. Terrible game.

Saito gets out of it with just the one run. But I just don't see a comeback in the bottom of the ninth. Prove me wrong, guys.

And there they go. 1-2-3 inning for Aardsma. Shitty performance from Saito, but really: 2 runs on 4 hits. Time to get the bats going again.

Sox bullpen really coming down to earth. Still a real good group of relievers, but regression to the mean is a cold-hearted bitch.

Well, yes, Saito could not find the plate against the first three batters he faced, but I really think this one's on the offense not the bullpen. Saito actually did a pretty good job getting out of the mess he had created with minimum damage.

Minus the nightmare in Baltimore:
35 2/3 IP, 12 ER approx. 3 ERA

The past week minus the nightmare has been dandy (19 IP, 4 ER). I don't think it's likely that Masterson or Okajima gives up 4 runs in an outing more than once more this year, let alone in the same game.
Consider me unconcerned.
