Short Solution

Peter Gammons writes that Dustin Pedroia would absolutely love to play shortstop:

And, here on the first of December, there is an extra incentive for the 2008 MVP. "They've asked me if I think I could play shortstop," Pedroia says. "They've put it out there and I've told them I'm all for it. I can do it. I can't wait for Tito [Terry Francona] to call me and ask, 'Can you do it?' I can do it. I really want to do it."

But did anyone ask the pitchers what they think?

I would love to see him try! But say they go get Uggla. Do they then sign Everett just in case? It would be great for flexibility if Pedroia could play there, even just a few times a week. But my question is: If they ever thought this was a possibility, what took them so long? A hitting 2B is so much easier to be found.

Funniest line:

"When the idea of moving back to shortstop was floated to me, I welcomed it," Pedroia told Gammons. "I'm excited. Tell Derek (Jeter) to enjoy the gold glove and silver slugger awards while he can."

The next sentence from Pedroia should keep Yankee fans from sharpening their knives:

"Obviously, I'm not serious about the fun I have with Derek, but I'm never stopping believing in the goal."

Pedroia is just such a fun player to root for.

i didn't even bother looking for my knives, let alone worry about sharpening them sf...when i read the first line, i smiled, when i read the second line i laughed...clearly he was kidding, and i've read a number of times that they have quite a mutual respect and admiration thing going...some fans from both sides could learn something here...
